Judd have re turned from their visit to Atlantic City, and are now at the Southern Pines Hotel. A. H. Root has gone to Springfield, Mass., to enjoy a month's vacation with Mrs. Root, who has been there or some time. The Sunnyside farm has produced 1 watermelon measuring- in length 46 inches, 39 around and weigh ing 47 pounds. We were furnished with a sample. R. E. Geyer has returned from i brief visit to New York where he vis ited his father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Charles T. Geyer. We are pleased to note that his mother, who has been very sick, is much better. Littleton Female College is being completely renovated including inside painting, rewhitening the walls, &c , preparatory to the largest opening in its history. This institution has made a notable record among North Caro lina schools and its patronage is rap idly extending to sections beyond the borders of the State. Concerning the institution Dr. A. Betts says: "I have seen something of schools for a long time. I have looked into some that I call ideal schools. I have never seen a better place for girls than Littleton Female College." Littleton Female College, a notice of which appears elsewhere in this paper, has the reputation of being one of the most thorough and progressive schools in North Carolina. L. have been flying thick and fast for the past few days. Miss Love and Misses McDuffie, of Co umbus, Ga., Miss Clark, of Aberdeen and Miss Page, of Hoffman, were the guests of Mrs. Dr. Ferguson lust Monday.
