Dr. Kugler, a well-known visitor to Southern Pines, had the misfortune to loose his residence and its contents destroyed by fire at Fayetteville, N C, last Monday. Dr. Kugler came to Southern Pines from Pennsylvania but finally decided to locate at Fay et'teville. He has the sympathy of many friends in his loss. Mr. I C. Edgerton is enjoying a visit from his cousin, Mr. H. L Moore, of Lebanon, Ind. Mrs. G. D. Hull, of Asheville, is visiting her father, P. P. Whitehouse. She is just recovering from typhoid fever and expects to stay through the season here, where the climate is milder than that of the mountain re gion. James McCall, colored, has the sympathy 1 many friends in the loss of his -3-year old baby, who was burnejl lo death at Manly last Tuesday. We was standing by the fire when his clothing caught on fire and despite the efforts of two other children to extinguish the flames, he was burned to death. According to announcement the Masons entertained their friends and visiting brethren at their hall on Broad street last Wednesday evening and showed them their new and cost ly furnishings. It is a source of pride to the Masons and their friends that such a neat and well arranged place for meeting ean be seen here, and certainly there are few lodges in the state which could make a better showing. After inspecting the lodge the crowd was invited to King's Daughters Hall, where Chairman Jones of the committee of arrange ments had prepared a neat and attrac tive program for entertainment, to gether with a splendid lunchecn of coffee, c il e, - racVe s, sandwiches, and a fourth of a pound of good can dy for every one ' present.
