Chancellor Paul Hardin saidwould
not give the proposal special treatment.
After examining the report, Hardin will
send it to the Buildings and Grounds
Committee for its April 14 meeting.

Carolina Blues member, said the recruiting team’s major
responsibility was giving football recruits a tour of the Kenan
Field House but added that the Carolina Blues had other
obligations.
“We go in once a week and work for an hour in the Kenan
Field House office work, clerical type things, shovel
envelopes and helping get materials to coaches,” McCauley
said. “We’re an extra pair of hands.”
McCauley said male Carolina Blues members wouldn’t
change the recruiting process.
“I don’t think the (recruiting) will change in a negative
way,” she said. “I don’t think we won’t get certain recruits
because there are (male recruiters).
“We don’t spend a lot of time with the (recruits) in
private,” McCauley said. “The biggest thing is to show the
recruits that we have Carolina pride.”
McCauley said she believed the criticism the Sweet
Carolines received last semester accusing the group of ex
ploiting woman to attract potential players to the UNC
football program might have been one of reasons for the title
change.
Michael Thomas, a sophomore quarterback and punter for
the varsity football team, said male Carolina Blues members
would not affect the recruiting of high-school football play
ers.
“I don’t think having (male recruiters) will change the
(organization),” Thomas said. “The purpose of the (Carolina
Blues) is to tell recruits the social and academic aspects of the
University and football program.”

“The site selection is the building
and grounds’ department,” Hardin said.
The report outlines programs and
facilities to be included in the BCC, as
well as costs, size and fund raising.
The estimated cost for a 48,000-
square-foot building is $6,877,000. The
report suggests forming a campaign as
part of the ongoing Bicentennial Cam
paign to raise the $7 million needed for
construction.

woman and a couple, Youngblood said.
Youngblood said one solution to pre
venting further vandalism was bringing
the figures inside at night.

main functions of the working group
was to encourage donations by educat
ing the public about the BCC.
He said at least one person tenta
tively had said he would donate a large
amount of money.
The BCC’s programs will focus on
cultural education, both entertainment
and academic. The report calls for the
BCC to house the Institute for Research
on the Life and History of Blacks in
America, which would serve a research
and teaching center exploring the black
experience.

connect programs that deal with black
studies under one roof.
