Terps Slip by Bearcats; Duke Loses School-Record 12th ACC Game
THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
SAN ANTONIO The 20th win of
the season was a big one for the seventh
ranked Maryland Terrapins,
v “It was similar to the postseason play
offs because you are playing in an arena
you are not familiar with and you are
playing against a good team,” coach Gary
Williams said after the Terrapins beat Cin
cinnati 74-72 Sunday. “This will help us
get ready for the tournament.”
Joe Smith sank two free throws with
16.1 seconds left to ensure the victory.
Smith led all scorers with 26 points and 14
rebounds.

On Saturday, the Wolfpack took a step
to eliminate that prospect.
The Wolfpack sent Duke to its worst
ACC season ever Saturday, gaining an 84-
79 victory behind 22 points from Todd
Fuller and clutch play off the bench from
Marcus Wilson.
Combined with Clemson’s loss to
Florida State, N.C. State moved into sev
enth place in the ACC and saw the Tigers
fall behind them in eighth place. Duke is
ninth and has clinched a spot in the Thurs
day night play-in game in the tournament,
and still has league games against Florida
State, Maryland and at North Carolina.
