Safety Tips ■Don't walk alone at night, or in secluded places anytime. ■Plan your route in advance so you can stay in well-lit areas. (See the lighting corridors marked on the map.) ■On campus at night, call the Point-To-Point shuttle at 962-PTOP (962- 7867) or Safe Escort (students only) at 962-SAFE (962-7233). If neither is available, call the University Police at 962-8100. ■Be alert to your surroundings. Be prepared for the unexpected. ■lf you are being followed, go to a well-lit area where there are other people and call the police. ■Don't accept rides from strangers, or give rides to strangers. ■Never prop open outside doors of a residence hall or campus building. Make sure the door closes behind you when coming in or going out of a building. ■Don't let strangers into any locked campus build ing. Instead, direct them to the courtesy phones outside residence halls or ask them to call the University Police or the friend whom they are meeting. ■Don't leave valuables, like purses and wallets, in plain sight. ■When going on a date with anew acquaintance, let someone you trust know where you are going and with whom, and when to expect you to return. ■Lock your doors whenever you leave your residence, office or car. ■Don't leave valuables, like computers and expensive jewelry, unsecured. ■Be aware that alcohol and drugs affect your judgment and ability to react. ■Notify the police if you see anything suspicious or out of the ordinary. Point-To-Point Shuttle 962-PTOP or (TDD) 962-7142 1 n / hen it's dark, use P2P to travel around campus or to and from 1/1/ y° ur car. To reach P2P dial 962-7867 or 962-7142 (TDD). Direct- W line phones offering one-touch access to P2P dispatchers are located in the P, PR, Manning (Sl2), Bowles (Sll), or Bell Tower lots, the Craige parking deck (Manning Drive entrance) or the Health Affairs parking deck (visitor's entrance). To use: ■Just drive up to the dark blue P2P box. ■ Push the red button, and you'll be connected to P2P to arrange a ride. ■ Stay in you car near the box till the shuttle arrives so they can find you, then park and board the shuttle. Also, the P2P Xpress circles the perimeter of ' the main campus from 7 pm to 3 am daily during the academic year. Pick up and drop off is at designated Xpress stops. The ride is free, but you need a valid University ID or UNC OneCard to use the Xpress. Safe Escort Service 962-SAFE 7 1 he student-run Safe Escort Service is available to students from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. Sunday through Thursday during the fall and spring semesters. Safe Escort provides escorts for the main campus only, bordered by Franklin and Pittsboro streets, Raleigh Road and Hinton James dorm. Escorts are available by calling 962-SAFE (962-7233), or by stopping by the Safe Escort desk in the Davis Library.
