(lljp latlij (Tar Herl Sports Briefs UNC Defeats Davidson In Men’s Tennis Match The North Carolina men’s tennis team opened its outdoor season with a 5-2 win against Davidson. The lar Heels took four singles matches and swept the three doubles matches against the Wildcats. I’ripp Phillips, Trystan Meniane, Chad Riley and Greg Archer recorded the singles wins. In doubles, the teams of Phillips and Marcio Petrone, Tyne Brownlow and David Cheatwood, and Archer and Assaf Drori were victorious. Women’s Track Athletes Going to USA Nationals Five members of the UNC women’s track and field team will compete at the indoor USA Nationals this weekend at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta. DeAnne Davis and Ola Sesay will each compete in the long jump, triple jump and 4X400-meter relay. Other relay members are Janelle Billingslea and Edi Ntuen. Joy Ganes will compete in the high jump. UNC Crew Hits Water For I st Time in 2000 The UNC rowing team will open its season Saturday at University Lake in the Carolina Dash, facing Duke in a three-race format of 1000-meter sprints. The races begin at 8 a.m. University Lake will be open to spec tators from 7 a.m. until 10 a.m. solely for the viewing of the races. Admission is free. The team’s execution in the finale was in sharp contrast to the opener.
