Strily ®ar HM Tar Heels Wrap Up Busy Week Staff Report The fifth-ranked North Carolina women’s lacrosse team bounced back from a disappointing loss to 12th-ranked Boston University on Friday night by rallying past 1 lth-ranked George Mason 10-6 on Sunday. The Tar Heels improved to 5-2 on the season with the win against the UNC ROUNDUP Patriots, who lost for the first time and fell to 3-1. North Carolina picked up an 8-6 win against Loyola before traveling to Baltimore and losing to Boston on Friday. Men's Tennis Stretches Win Streak The North Carolina men’s tennis team opened its 2000 ACC season suc cessfully with a 6-1 victory at Florida State. The win was the fifth in a row for Coach Sam Paul’s team, and the Tar Heels now stand at 8-2 overall and 1-0 in the ACC. North Carolina entered conference play riding on the momentum of a 4-3 victory against 25th-ranked South Carolina in its previous match. UNC junior David Cheatwood clinched the victory for the Tar Heels by defeating USC’s Olof Akesson 5-7, 7-5, 6-3 at No. 3 singles. Softball Successful in South Carolina The North Carolina softball team made a run to the championship game of the Ringor Winthrop Invitational Tournament on Sunday, but fell to Southern Mississippi in the title game. Women's Tennis Falls to Florida The fifth-ranked Florida women’s ten nis team won its third match in four days with Monday’s 9-0 victory against UNC. North Carolina had amassed a three match winning streak before the loss to Florida. UNC defeated lowa 5-4 in its previous match. UNC Gymnasts Place Fifth in Raleigh The North Carolina gymnastics team finished fifth in the overall competition at the Wolfpack Invitational in Raleigh with a total of 193.450 points on Saturday. N.C. State won the meet with 197.725 points. The Tar Heels’ Brooke Wilson totaled 38.525 points in the all-around compe tition, with her highest score coming in the bars, where she earned a 9.850. Men's Golf Ties for 10th in Las Vegas The North Carolina men’s golf team finished in a tie for 10th place with an 869 total at the Las Vegas Intercollegiate. North Carolina’s Max Harris tied for sixth place with a 211 total. He was one of three players who fired a 67 in the final round, the low score for that day.
