So I finally broke down.” Fowler said she called Beauty Quest that week for a Saturday appointment, but was told to reschedule it. “The next week I called again and said I had a certificate,” she said. “The guy said I had a fraudulent offer. INAUGURATION From Page 1 against proposed tuition increases. “We have been fortuitous in many efforts to have met with great success,” Conner said. “To the chagrin of many, thousands of students across this cam pus helped me keep that promise.” “Isn’t it pretty awesome what stu dents can do when we join together?” Lerissa Rentas, whose vice presidential inauguration ended her term as student body secretary, praised the ability of the departing officers’ solidarity as a team. “One year ago, five strangers sat in diose chairs united by the goal of improv ing the University,” Rentas said. She encouraged the new administration to w ork with the same zeal for service. Other officers inducted were Residence Hall Association President Robin Yamakawa, GPSF President Thad Woody, Carolina Athletic Association President Tee Pruitt (his second term) and Student Attorney General Taylor Lea. Senior Class President Jason Cowley and Vice President Sherilynn Black and Congress members were also inagurated. A common theme in many speeches was the importance of the combined efforts. “One thing I realized this year is that nothing good happens from just one person,” Heinke said. “We had fun, we worked hard and we learned a lot When I look back on this year, I’ll judge it well.” The University Editor can be reached at udesk@unc.edu. HEINKE From Page 1 at the memorial service for Hooker and came to tears again in front of the BOT in October when he spoke of how tuition would limit the University’s accessibility to students like himself. Again on Tuesday, Heinke ended his speech and presidency teary-eyed -a dramatic end to a dramatic year. With the desire to come back to UNC to attend law school later down the road, Heinke will soon move on to a job in Raleigh as the communications director for NCEITA, an information technology company. Looking back on his presidency, he said it was hard to walk away from the University, especially after the ups and downs of such a momentous tenure. “There’s a reason you do this job for only a year - to give it your all.”
