and Eddie Robinson each chipped in a
score of their own.
Batt, a freshman, scored the Tar
Heels’ first goal of the season 11 minutes
into the game. Carrieri added a goal at
21:17 by putting back a rebound of a
Toepel.
The Tar Heels managed to draw only
one penalty comer in the entire game,
while Penn State had eight.
The Nittany Lions opened the chal
lenge by handing Virginia its first loss of
the season with a 3-1 victory.
UNC also defeated Michigan (2-1) in
the ACC/Big Ten Challenge by a score
of 4-2.
Four different Tar Heels chipped in
with goals in the the victory. Forwards
Katie McDonald, Holly Huff and Woolley
scored their first goals of the season.
Toepel contributed her second of the year.
The Tar Heels outshot Michigan
16-10 and drew five penalty comers to
the Wolverines’ three.
McDonald and Huff helped the Tar
Heels to a 2-1 halftime lead. Woolley
grabbed an assist on Huff’s goal.
UNC will take on its third consecu
tive Big Ten opponent, lowa, in the
Temple Invitational in Philadelphia on
Saturday.
