UNC won the next six events. Kline’s good day peaked when he won the 200-yard relay with a season best time of 1:40. “We’re starting to rest a little bit because ACCs are at the end of the month,” Kline said. “Plus, the senior cer emony was pretty special, and having it be my last meet there definitely helped.” The Tar Heels dominated both relay events as well. Maryland (7-2,1-1 in the ACC) never inched ahead of UNC’s ‘A’ team in the 200 relay. The 400 relay proved to be a bit more of a challenge for the Tar Heels. Maryland pulled out in front for the first two legs of the relay. Unfortunately for the Terrapins, Tar IPNTHfiROffIU sive results this weekend at the Penn State Invitational. Although UNC coach Dennis Craddock only traveled with about 30 athletes, the men’s and women’s teams garnered a total of four NCAA provisional qualifiers. Shalane Flanagan posted a provision al time of 4:56.66 in the mile run. In the high jump, Joy Ganes finished second with a provisional mark of 5-10 3/4. Lutisha Shittu clocked a NCAA provi sional qualifying time of 8.42 in the 60- meter hurdles. lan Douglas led the men with a provisional qualifying mark of 59- Mr. Steadman’s cancer had spread to his brain, and the doctors did not expect him to live through the holidays. On Dec. 31,2000, the Ravens won the first playoff game in franchise his tory 21-3 against the Denver Broncos. On Jan. 1, 2001, John Steadman was dead. He was 73. I went to his funeral four days later. So did more than 400 people, crowded into a church in downtown Baltimore. Among them were several old Baltimore Colts, Orioles owner Peter Angelos, broadcaster Jim McKay and Monday, January 29, 2001 Heel freshman Justin Donato pulled ahead in the third leg. Junior standout Kevin Emdl anchored the 3:04 win for UNC, just more than one second ahead of Maryland. In addition to anchoring both relay wins, Emdl also placed first in the 50 freestyle and second in the 100 freestyle. The Tar Heels dominated the Terrapins at the other end of the pool as well. Krebs, the Tar Heels’ only two event winner, placed first in the 1- and 3-meter dives. He is undefeated in the ACC in both diving categories. “I’ve been happy with my perfor mances in conference meets,” Krebs said. “I’ve really been working hard.
