Eagle Stas Swerdzewski Baseball UNC 2 Winthrop 3 hit a one-out single and was replaced on the base paths by Brian Snyder. Todd Friedman then doubled to left-center putting runners on seconds and third. UNC coach Mike Fox pulled Dennis Robinson for Daniel Moore. Bentley’s departure marks the third time in the past year that a wrestler has left the UNC program. Skyler Holman transferred to Oklahoma State before the season start ed and Chuckie Connor left the pro gram in January. UNC coach Bill Lam released Bentley from the UNC program last Wednesday. “Oklahoma State is one of the best programs in the nation and one of the best programs of all time,” Bentley said. “It will be a good situation for me.” The Newland native was named ACC Wrestler of the Year after compil ing a 30-3 overall record. But Bentley did not attain his ulti mate goal of winning an NCAA Championship, losing in the first round. Bentley hopes the transfer will change that sort of outcome. “Going to Oklahoma State is going to give me the best chance to reach my goals,” Bentley said. “leaving was just something I needed to do. “I’ve been thinking about leaving for a while. I can’t pinpoint one thing because I’ve been debating transferring all year.” (!ll|f Daily (Ear Hrrl | For Sale | Child Care | GO TO DISNEYWORLD after graduation. 10 day Orlando-Daytona trip with 7 day rental car and hotel. Tar Heels Ruin Wolfpack Hopes Bv Kelly Lusk Assistant Sports Editor RALEIGH - N.C. State will have to wait yet another year to get its revenge on the North Carolina men’s tennis team. For the second year in a row, UNC narrowly defeated the Wolfpack 4-3. “They were definitely pumped up Men’s Tennis UNC 4 N.C. State 3 for the match,” freshman Nick Monroe said. “Their coach on the sideline was like, ‘You’ve got to win this match, we don’t want to lose 4-3 like we did last year.’” Unfortunately for N.C. State coach Eric Hayes, the Tar Heels extended their 14-year winning streak against the Wolfpack, but not without some degree of difficulty Wednesday at the Wolfpack Tennis Center. UNC’s Trystan Meniane and Chad Riley won at the third seed, but Monroe and senior David Cheatwood lost then second straight doubles match at No. 1, leaving Petrone and Archer responsible for deciding the point The pair started off slow and fought back from a three-point deficit to tie the score. N.C. State’s Eric Jackson and Reinaldo Valor kept the match tight but late in the match UNC broke and then held serve to claim the win, 9-7. “Lately Marcio and I have won our close matches,” Archer said. “Now when we’re in that position, we have a lot of confidence. We believe if it comes down to us, well be able to deliver the point.” BRAKES 50% OFF Pads and Shoes Coupon Must Be Presented At Time Of Estimate Not Valid On Previous Sales • Expires 5/15/01 EXHAUST S2O OFF Exhaust Consisting Of Connector Pipe, Muffler & Tailpipe Coupon Must Be Presented At Time Of Estimate Not Valid On Previous Sales • Expires 5/15/01 TRANSMISSION $lO OFF A Transmission Power Flush Coupon Must Be Presented At Time Of Estimate Not Valid On Previous Sales • Expires 5/15/01 cut and save 11 Hey Cao ttna ’ (L'Miw you can earn sss and contribute vsy to the future of medicine. You have to have no fear in that type of situation.” Monroe broke Michael Carducci’s serve at 4-4 in the second set and then held serve to win 6-4,6-4 and clinch the match for UNC. “It was a tough spot for anyone to be in, and Nick just won the match,” Paul said. “They always play us tough here.
