The Law Library supports the edu
cation of UNC-CH hw students; serves
as a research partner with faculty and
students; and strives to meet the legal
information needs of UNCCH students
and faculty, the legal community, and
tht citieens of North Carolina. ,

Collections:
The Law Library contains approximately 500,0CX) items. The collec
tion includes basic Anglo-American legal materials such as: court
reports for American, British, and Canadian appellate courts; current
codes and session laws for all states; administrative regulations of
many states; and other primary legal materials. Treatises, digests,
encyclopedias, citations, loose-leaf services, and other materials of
interest to the legal profession are also available. A collection of
records and briefs for the North Carolina courts, the Fourth Court of
Appeals, and the United States Supreme Court is provided for
Library users. The Law Library is a selective depository for Federal
government documents. The collection has special strengths in bank
ing law and civil rights, to support the Center for Banking and
Finance and the Center for Civil Rights at the School of Law.

HEALTH SCIENCES LIBRARY
The Health Sciences Library is open to the public, and users have free
access to the open collections. The Library contains more than
316,000 volumes, including recent and historical materials; 3,600
current serial titles; and more than 2,000 audiovisual and microcom
puter software programs.
Renovation in 20Q2:
Construction will begin in spring 2002. While exciting, this means
that services, collections, and staff will be changing locations. The

The Library tries to accommodate the special needs of patrons. Please
ask at the Circulation Desk.
Borrowing: UNC-CH faculty, students, and staff may borrow
materials from the Law Library using a valid UNC One Card.
Borrowing privileges may also be extended to others upon application
at the Circulation Desk.
Reference: The staff at the Reference Desk help patrons with legal
research and with questions about the collection but do not give legal
advice. The staff assist users with locating and using legal materials
and also answer questions via email at: Law_Reference@unc.edu-
Tours and Instruction: Touts and orientation sessions for groups
may be arranged by contacting the head of Research and User
Services at 962-1605. These sessions can be tailored to the research
needs of a particular class.
Law School faculty may request that a reference librarian provide
guest instruction on the use of legal research sources related to the
topic of a course. Law students are encouraged to take advantage of the
Advanced Legal Research law course taught by reference librarians.

Photocopying and Laser
Printing Services:
The Health Sciences Library uses the UNC One Card and University
Guest Cards for copying and for printing from computer workstations.
For more information, call the One Card office at 962-1385.
Live Online Help:
This fall anew feature called Live Online Help will be available. It
will enable patrons to connect to the library via the Web to post ques
tions and receive guidance from librarians. Live Online Help will be
useful to anyone doing online research but is being offered especially
to meet the needs of distance education students. It is a service of the
Health Sciences Library and Davis Library. Look for announcements
on the Libraries Web sites: www.hsl.unc.edu and www.lib.unc.edu-
UNCLE (Electronic Health Information):
UNCLE enables you to search information resources from your home,
office, or library computer workstation. Index databases such as
MEDLINE and International Pharmaceutical Abstracts (IPA), clinical
information tools such as Clinical Pharmacology and MD Consult, as
well as selected Internet sites and over 1,200 full text journals such as
JAMA, New England Journal of Medicine, and Science are available.
UNCLE is directly accessible on the Web: www.uncle.unc.edu- It is
also linked from the UNC-CH Libraries Web site (www.lib.unc.edu)
and the Health Sciences Library Web site (www.hsl.unc.edu)- On
campus users do not need a password for access to UNCLE resources.
Off-campus access to licensed UNCLE resources is available to UNC
CH faculty, staff, and students and to UNC Hospitals and AHEC
employees via authentication to the UNC-CH Libraries’ proxy server.

Hours:
The Library opens before classes begin
each morning and remains open late into
the evening to accommodate student and
faculty needs. The schedule varies with

Teaching Lab:
The lab is available during fall 2001 for instructional purposes. It con
tains 14 student workstations and an instructor's workstation with
computerized projection equipment. The lab will close December
2001 for renovation.
ATN Computer Lab:
Academic Technology and Networks maintains a computer lab and
IT Response Center on the lower level of the Library where general
purpose applications workstations are available on a walk-in basis.
The Lab Help Desk phone is 966-1047. IT Response Center is 962-
HELP. The networks in the Teaching Lab and the ATN Computer
Lab also allow access to the Internet, UNCLE, and the Online
Catalogs. Contact the User Services Desk at 962-0800. The lab will
close December 2001 for renovation.
Audiovisuals, Software, Reserves,
and Educational IVledia Design:
The Library provides these services in support of teaching and learn
ing. A Reserves Room, Media Kitchen, and audiovisual viewing
rooms are available. Full-time staff provide consultation and in
depth information services. Staff assist faculty in identifying, evaluat
ing, using, or designing audiovisuals and multimedia software in the

Free consultations are available by appointment with a Library staff
member who has expertise in the subject area or information resource
in which you are interested. Consultations are customized, focused,
efficient, and instructive. Consultants can help you with:
