2 Monday, November 5, 2001 CAA Excited About Action-Packed Homecoming CAA officials said the group has been working hard and hope students take advantage of the festivities. By Jacqueline Brown Staff Writer The Carolina Athletic Association has planned several exciting events to kick off Homecoming. “This year our main goal is to get University students involved and to make Homecoming a more prominent event,” said CAA Assistant Homecoming director Eryn Linkous. WM 3B BF “We’re really looking forward to all the events because this year we’re focus ing on tradition,” said Homecoming Director Kris Willett. CAA officials say they are excited about the Kickoff Lunch on Monday. Free Mexican food and wings will be given out from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Polk Place. The Homecoming candidates will be at the event, and football head coach John Bunting might be in attendance, Willett said. Also on Monday, CAA is sponsoring “Paint the Town Blue.” Franklin Street businesses have been invited to paint their windows Carolina blue. “Thirty to 40 businesses are going to participate in the event, and this event is a way for the community to participate in Homecoming events along with the Homecoming 'Ol campus,” Linkous said. CAA officials also say they are excit ed about “Cans for Cups.” Students have been asked to bring two canned food items to the Pit from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday. The food will be donated to the Chatham Outreach Alliance, Inc. Asa reward, the students will be given a free cup listing all Homecoming events. “This event allows us to incorporate community service into our Homecoming festivities,” Linkous said. CAA also is sponsoring “Tailgate Tuesday.” Carolina Dining Services is working with CAA to provide a tailgate party for students at Lenoir Dining Hall and Chase Hall. Food and karaoke will be provided. The University’s athletics teams have donated prizes to be given away at the event. “This year we have events that will include all UNC students,” Willet said. Homecoming Election Day will be held on Wednesday, and all students are encouraged to vote for their favorite Homecoming king and queen candidate online on Student Central from 8 a.m. HANGERS CLEANERS. The tickets are $25 per person, and the proceeds from the black-tie affair will go to the senior class gift. Also on Thursday, the Campus Y is hosting a concert and date auction. This year the Homecoming parade will be held Friday. The parade begins at 6 p.m. The route includes South Road, Raleigh Street and Franklin Street. The prizes will include a plaque and gift cer tificates to The Loop and Outback. “We’ve put a lot of energy toward this event, since it’s on Friday, the day before the game,” Linksou said. Also on Friday, the senior class is sponsoring Thank Goodness it’s Franklin, or TGIF. Local drink specials will be available all around Franklin Street on Friday night, and the movie “Rudy” will be shown for free in the Union. Prizes will be awarded.
