2 Tuesday, February 5, 2002 ONE Card Office Changes Locations By Philissa Cramer Staff Writer Beginning this week, students seeking assistance at the UNC ONE Card office will need to go to anew location. The ONE Card office is moving from the second floor of Student Stores to the basement, where it will have an entrance on South Road that is accessi ble from the street and by the recently reopened Pit stairs. Megan Keefe, assistant manager of the ONE Card office, said the new loca tion will increase the office’s capabilities. The forums will be: J^|| 10am to noon UHL School of Social Work Tate Turner Kuralt Auditorium 2pm to 4pm 4th Floor Clinic Auditorium Old Clinic Building spm to 7pm Student Union Film Auditorium Each forum will begin with a presentation giving an overview of parking and t 4, - transportation as the system now exists at Carolina. While TPAC has not yet | developed recommendations for next permit year, which begins Aug. 18, 2002, it has been examining several issues and evaluating options. It is the , v? committee’s hope that, at the Feb. 5 forums, members of the campus com munity will voice their thoughts on these issues and options. They include: • Cost increases and potential revenue sources. • Possible institution of night-parking program. • Possible changes in cost of parking permits. It is important to note that TPAC has tabled until March its discussions , regarding whether the University should change resident-student parking 5 1 jjjjjjjA and parking-permit allocation. This means that these issues will not be C|S] | SSL examined at the Feb. 5 forums and, furthermore, that no changes will be made in these areas for 2002-03. V j 1!) gip&t "l TPAC will consider feedback from the forums as it develops recommenda gjl H tions for next year. These recommendations will be submitted to the Tp H University administration and- ultimately -to the University Board of Jk I Trustees possible adoption in March 2002. Any approved changes would not S| take effect until Aug. 18,2002. __ For more information about TPAC’s work, see: JSlg http://main.psafety.unc.edu/tp/TPAC/tpacdocs/TPAC.htm pB B She said the new office will contain duplicates of the ONE Card’s most-used machines. In addition, she said the office will soon start to print Wachovia bank cards. “We will need a much higher level of security,’’ Keefe said. Nathan Shafar, a processing assistant who works full-time at the ONE Card office, said the move would improve conditions for employees as well as stu dents. “There’s no room for anything (in the old location)," he said. Shafar said the clutter that plagued the upstairs ONE Card office will be reduced in the new office. He said the new loca University tion offers more space, better lighting and greater handicapped accessibility. The biggest crunch for the ONE Card office typically comes at the begin ning of each semester, when students replace lost cards, buy meal plans and set up expense accounts. Shafar said the office has operated a satellite office in the Union Cabaret during crunch time each fall. But the new office eliminates the need for a satellite office, he said. “We’ll be able to make cards a lot quicker, especially at the beginning of the semester,” Keefe said. That’s a change freshman Cassidy Shelley said she will appreciate. She lost her ONE Card in the middle of last semester, and she said that when she went to replace it, she had to wait longer than she thought was necessary. “Usually it’s really busy, especially after certain classes,” Shelley said. She said she hopes more space will improve the office’s operation. “That would make the lines move more quick ly and efficiently.” The University Editor can be reached at udesk@unc.edu. “a, healthy indulgence,” Downtown Chapel Hill 111 .. 106 W.
