Mooring Could Miss Game
Vs. Injury-Riddled Jackets

Mooring will likely be sidelined against
Georgia Tech on Saturday after breaking
two bones in his
Football

right hand.
The sophomore
sustained the injury
in a fall in his apart
ment off campus
Saturday morning.
He had surgery
Monday and did not
practice Tuesday.
“It’s always tough for a football team
to lose a player due to injury,” said
UNC coach John Bunting at his weekly
press conference Tuesday. “But it is
tougher when the player gets injured off
the field.”
Bunting was optimistic that Mooring
will be able to play through the injury in
coming weeks, but said he did not
expect Mooring to play against the
Yellow Jackets.
Jocques Dumas will likely start in
Mooring’s place, Bunting said. Tommy
Davis, Jermicus Banks and Larry Jessup
should also see increased playing time.

CHARLOTTE - No. 15 North
Carolina faced an in-state test Tuesday
but hung on to beat Charlotte 3-1. The
Tar Heels improved to 12-1 on the sea
son and 14-0 all-time against the 49ers,
while Charlotte fell to 8-6.
Senior outside hitter Laura Greene
led the Tar Heels with 17 kills, and
senior outside hitter Malaika
Underwood added 18 digs.
The Tar Heels took an early 7-3 lead
in game one. Charlotte eventually tied
the score at 12-12 and again at 19-19
before the Tar Heels grabbed two points
on consecutive kills by outside hitter

knee blew out just like his.”
An MRI on Monday revealed that
Hollings had a tom anterior cruciate lig
ament and a tom lateral meniscus in his
right knee. He will undergo surgery in
two weeks and is out for the remainder
of the season.
“I feel bad for him and at some point
I will get in touch with him and let him
know that he can make it back from
Strauss, respectively, for a 21-19 lead.
Charlotte got back within one point
twice, but UNC held on, clinching the
game on a kill by Greene. The Tar Heels
cruised to a 30-19 win in game two.
Charlotte trailed 26-24 in game three,
but mounted a 6-2 mn down the stretch
to take a game from the Tar Heels for
the first time since 1993. North Carolina
reasserted itself to win game four 30-25,
clinching the match on another Greene

Sunday. “In the next two days, we are
going to evaluate exacdy where we are
at the running back position, and what
we need to do. I would not mle any
thing out.”
Freshman Ajenavi Eziemefe will like
ly be the starter against the Tar Heels,
but he will be hard-pressed to fill the
production void left by Hollings’ injury.
“The loss of a running back that was
leading the nation in mshing was a very
serious blow to them,” Bunting said.
“Those things happen in football, and
you’ve got to go on."
