the terrorist attacks Sept. 11,2001.
Although the speakers at the
meeting did not discuss the possi
bility of an attack on the UNC cam
pus or a biological incident at the
labs, UNC officials have analyzed
the possibility of attacks and have
implemented preventive measures.
“If it is a known attack, we would
respond, we would contain the area
and we would quarantine the peo
ple necessary" said Peter Reinhardt,
director of UNC’s Department of
Environment, Health & Safety.
But Reinhardt said he has com
plete confidence in the safety' of
the UNC labs and does not foresee
any possible biological incidences.
“Any facility we have using those
kind of toxins are secure; they
have very little access, and there is
a screening of people getting in,”
he said. “I have confidence all
those areas are secure.”
