HUMAN RESEARCH SUBJECTS NEEDED:
The Department of Pediatrics and the
Center for Environmental Medicine, Asthma,
and Lung Biology at the University of
North Carolina at Chapel Hill are conduct
ing a research project to investigate the
effects of environmental tobacco smoke
on the organization of the cells lining the
respiratory airways. Healthy adult subjects,
both smokers and non-smokers* of both
genders are invited to reply. Individuals
accepted into the study will be compen
sated for three clinic visits occurring over a
three month period. Clinic visits will
involve consultation with investigators
regarding recent tobacco smoke and other
environmental exposures, a non-invasive
sampling of the cells lining the nasal cavi
ties and mouth, a non-invasive measure
ment of nasal nitric oxide, and submission
of a urine sample(s). For further informa
