Your classroom can be found not only in Hamilton, Venable or Murphey, but also in cities in more than 60 countries of the world. The Study Abroad Office offers you over 270 academic pro grams that allow you to take courses abroad and transfer credit for your Carolina degree. Simultaneously, through admission to one of these programs, you have the opportunity to learn how to negotiate cultural boundaries and to live as a foreigner in a country that will have a different history, culture and perhaps even language from that of the United States. Pursuing an academic program in London, Buenos Aires, Cairo, Moscow or Beijing, for example, will initiate the process of learning to become a global citizen as well as deepen your understanding of the United States by viewing it from a different place. The Study Abroad Office will assist you to find the most ap propriate program to realize your academic objectives as well as your cultural interests, provide practical advice, transfer your credit and assist you with the use of your financial aid. Exchange Programs UNC-Chapel Hill, through the Study Abroad Office, has agreements with selected institutions around the world that make it possible for many students to study abroad at these institutions while paying their tuition/fees here at Carolina. All programs have GPA eligibility requirements and some have language, major, and/or a requirement that you be at least a Junior. So it’s important to read ail the information provided on the individual Study Abroad program brochure online. You can search for these programs via our website, http://studyabroad.unc.edu. just click on "Find a program" to search for exchange programs. Obviously, this is a plus for instate students. For out-of-state students, many non-exchange program costs are lower than out-of-state tuition at UNC-CH. When exploring any program, be sure to click on budget sheet” from any program brochure, to get an estimate of the cost of attendance for that program, and to see whether the program is "exchange or non-exchange", When you meet with an advisor, be sure to ask about costs.
