Even if we could, we wouldn't be a very effective opinion page if we did. But though we won’t always align with your personal judge ments, we do pledge that we will always be fair and balanced in the way that we approach the issues at hand. And not in the Fox News sense. The editorial board is made up of eight members, the associate opinion editor, the opinion editor and the editor-in-chief of The Daily Tar Heel, who attends meetings but does not vote on the position of the board. Three editorials appear every day on the opinion page between the column and the letters to the editor. Unlike the column, the cartoon and the letters to the editor, editorials do not have names attached to them. This is because they are written from the position of the board and do not reflect the individual stance of the writer. The editorial board meets three times a week for an hour and a half at a time to brainstorm ideas and to debate and vote on what stance it will choose to champion. After the stance is selected, members of the board volunteer to write editorials from the stance that the board voted to take. The end result of the process is the editorials that you read and enjoy.
