Kristen DeGroat wanted to sell her horse to an animal lover, but her adver
tisement ended up under “Good Things to Eat" in the classified sections
of two newspapers.
> About a third of the 60 or so calls she received were from people trying
to buy horse meat.
“It’s been enough to turn your stomach," said DeGroat, who was able to sell her
3-year-old mare, Foxy, to a man who wanted a live horse for his grandchildren.
DeGroat, 25, who lives about 85 miles northwest of Detroit, said she also received
dozens of calls from unhappy animal lovers.
“I had a lady call whose friend was just in tears over this thing," she said.
NOTED. A Mary land man who phoned the
governor's office with an opinion about mort
gage foreclosure realized he wasn't talking to a
secretary when the woman on the other end of
the line greeted him with, “Hi, sexy."
Pete Pritchard found the number for the gov
ernor's office is misprinted in the latest edition
of the local phone book. The printed number
connects with a phone sex service.

Chapel Hill High School student TJ Mainai works
on his “nollie lipslide" at the Chapel Hill Skate Park
on Wednesday. Mainai has been coming to the park
since he was in middle school, but Manager Ryan Ogilvy said
business last week was the slowest it’s been in three years.

■ Eddie Lovejoy Farrington,
30, of Raleigh, was arrested on
charges of driving while intoxi
cated and “possession of copious
amounts of marijuana," according
to Chapel Hill police reports.
Farrington was arrested at 2:53
a.m. Wednesday on Country Club
Road. He was found with 79.2
grams of marijuana, digital scales,
Food Lion sandwich baggies and a
soft cooler in his possession, after he
was seen driving without his head
lights on, according to reports.
Farrington, who faces felony
counts of possession and possession
with intent to sell or distribute mar
ijuana and a misdemeanor count of
possession of drug paraphernalia,
was taken to Orange County Jail
in lieu of $15,000 bail pending a
date in Hillsborough's court of first
appearance later Wednesday.

Steinkamp Durham, 85, of 213
Edisto Court, struck a pedestrian
crossing Banks Drive between the

Food Lion, according to Chapel
Hill police reports.
Durham was blinded by sunlight
shining over the top of die movie
theater and didn't see the pedestri
an, who pushed another pedestrian
out of the car's path, reports state.
The pedestrian was taken to the
hospital, but no serious injuries
were reported.
■ Micahael Alphonzo Poteat,
50, of Hillsborough, also known as
Faru, was arrested for felony pos
session of cocaine and felony pos
session of cocaine with intent to sell
or distribute charges and a misde
meanor charge of driving without a
license, Chapel Hill police reports
state.
Poteat was found with 8.4
grams of crack cocaine on North
Elliott Road at 9:23 p.m. Tuesday
and taken to Orange County Jail
in lieu of SIOO,OOO bail, pending
a Wednesday court appearance in
Chapel Hill, reports state.
