Mississippi lawmakers try to trim fat
FROM STAFF AND WIRE REPORTS
Three Mississippi legislators have introduced a bill that would make it illegal
for restaurants to serve obese customers, USA Today reported.
“Any food establishment to which this section applies shall not be allowed
to serve food to any person who is obese,” the bill reads in part.
The State Department of Health would be responsible for determining the obesity
benchmark and for enforcing the law.
Under the proposal, health inspectors would be allowed to take away the permit
from any restaurant that repeatedly feeds extremely overweight customers.
About two-thirds of Mississippians are overweight or obese, according to a recent
analysis of federal health data.
NOTED. A New Jersey State Police employee
is accused of sneaking into a church to look at
pornography on a nun’s computer.
Police said Thomas G. Findler had been
repeatedly sneaking into Grace St. Paul Episcopal
Church in the night over the last three weeks. A
church custodian found Findler, who worships
at the church, with pom on a nun’s computer.
Findler was charged with burglary and theft.
