Dose Maiy had a little house; now it’s burnt FROM STAFF AND WIRE REPORTS Two men are accused of burning down the birthplace of the woman made famous by the nursery rhyme “Mary Had a Little Lamb.” John Rousseau and Michael Dreslinski, who also face charges in a series of fires in central and western Massachusetts, have been held without bail since August. They were arraigned in connection with the Aug. 12 fire that destroyed a vacant house in Sterling where town officials say Mary Elizabeth Sawyer was bom in 1806. Sarah Josepha Hale is said to have published a poem in 1830 about Sawyer, as a child, bringing her lamb to school with her. Other accounts, hosvever, claim the original writer was a young man who was inspired by the incident. NOTED. A troubling new survey suggests a surprising number of young Britons don’t know the difference between fact and fiction. The Telegraph describes a survey showing that about a quarter of teens surveyed thought Winston Churchill was fictional. More than half said Sherlock Holmes was a real detective. But 1 didn’t want to, so I swallowed my door key.” British college student Chris Foster, 18, who swallowed his door key to keep his friends from forcing him to go home because he was drunk. He had drunk six beers, vodka and whisks- when his friends decided he should go home and sleep it off. He doesn’t remember the incident. Reports state suspects broke in and stole an estimated $4,550 worth of computer hardware, soft ware, cash and a backpack. ■ T\vo small-dollar break-ins were reported Saturday, according to Chapel Hill police reports. One of the break-ins was reported at 9:25 p.m. Saturday at 6 Clark Court, where the window was pushed in, causing an estimat ed S2OO in damage. Cash totaling $9 was reported missing, reports state.
