Implement the plan within student government, ensuring that this body of leadership more accurately reflects UNC's student body. TOP GOALS 1. Chancellor We have to convince the chancellor to buy into students and to fight for students as soon as he or she sets foot on campus. It's also important to make sure the chancellor understands the historic delegation of power to students to run their own affairs. 2. Tuition Affordable, predictable and fair tuition. I will fight for a tuition policy that lets students know what to expea and is fair to all students. 3. Student voice Let students own their university; students are the reason we have a uni versity. I will make sure that the University administration respects that faa when it makes decisions that impaa students. 4. Personalized academics I want to improve the academic experience for students through per sonalized advising, the opportunity to design your own courses and anew Student Central that will let see what you need for graduation. 5. Student life I want to improve student life by promoting collaboration among student groups, bringing more art to campus, adding late night dining and so much more. 6. Sustainability I will make sure that UNC fulfills its commitment to the environment and reduces its carbon footprint. TOP GOALS 1. Tuition policies I will advocate for the repeal of the 10-semester cap and for the enact ment of a more appropriate, equitable tuition remission policy that is respon sive to the diverse needs and academic requirements of each Ph.D. or terminal degree-granting discipline. I will push for anew policy that is adaptable to the ‘average time to completion* for each discipline's unique methodological requirements. 2. Diversity I will work to ensure that Carolina's student body reflects, welcomes and respects diversity. I am committed to expanding Carolina's commitments to all students and to provide an atmo sphere for learning and living that is free from harassment. 3. Sustainability I will work together with campus environmental organizations, the Sustainability Office and the student body president to reduce Carolina's car bon footprint, increase the number of low-flow toilets on campus, increase the percentage of official University vehicles that use alternative fuel sources and decrease Carolina's overall dependency on nonrenewable energy sources. HIST 367, North Carolina since 1865 with Jim Leloudis TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 12, 2008 LOGAN LILES STUDENT BODY PRESIDENT TOP GOALS 1. Advising The issue of academic advising is currently being reviewed by the Board of Trustees. Our administration will work with students, the Board of Trustees and Academic Advising to reform advising to provide students academic guidance. 2. Environment Our University must lead our nation in environmental sustainability and friendliness. We must do so because we are com mitted to serving the state, forming the leaders of tomorrow and finding solu tions for real problems. We must take the lead in addressing these issues on campus. 3. Board of Trustees The greatest duty a student body president has to perform is represent ing student concerns to the Board of Trustees. It is the Board of Trustees who decides our tuition. It is the Board of Trustees who has the greatest impact on a student's everyday life. Making sure students' voices are heard is the quintessential duty of a student body president. 4. Tuition We should treasure being voted the Best Value for an Education. One of the changes is tuition predid ability. Vital questions like how much you will have to pay in your four years at UNC should be common knowledge. With the University expeding students to plan to pay for their four years of education, the least a university can do is plan for all four years a student attends. TOP GOALS 1. Involvement By adding more committees and enlarging current committees, the CAA is looking to grow in the number of stu dents who are actively participating and creating programs and events. By offering students leadership opportunities on campus we are bring ing in people with diverse backrounds to add new ideas and thoughts and helping to develop stronger leaders on this campus. 2. Service The CAA already works hard rais ing money for the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center. Next year we are looking to con ned with the Orange County Special Olympics, the Campus Y and other ser vice organizations on campus. 3. Awareness I want to really promote the idea that the CAA is about more than just tickets. It is the PRIDE of this University. As I coileded signatures during the campaign, I asked people what they knew about CAA and many knew noth ing or just that we are the name associ ated with men's basketball tickets. We are so much more than that. TOP GOALS 1. Awareness Raising awareness for the Residence Hall Association in other on-campus student organizations and with resi dents in general. I plan on attending the meetings of organizations that should be working with RHA next year. I will use this opportunity to raise awareness on campus for the RHA. I believe it is more important to the resi dents to strengthen the organization then to know my name. 2. Collaboration Plan collaborative events between the residence halls to promote cohesion among the dorms. 3. Programming Enhance general programming through diversification and communi cation between the governors and the executive board. Specific initiatives include a speaker series. 4. Service Incorporate community service with in individual communities and with RHA as a whole. 7
