Sleeper said she saw potential in Kale and asked her to submit a five- to 10-minute video showcas ing a “day in the life." Kale said that if she makes it through the application pro cess and to the "Real World," she will return to UNC to finish her degree. "This doesn't change my plans," she said. “It just makes me realize I can get something cool out of my life and maybe live in a really cool place." Wang stressed the fact that for every step up the mountain she must be able to take the same step back down —most deaths occur during descent. “The summit is optional. It will always be there," she said. “Coming down is mandatory." The success in Aconcagua was on her third attempt. She plans to make it to the North Pole in April and then Everest next spring. For every successful climb, then* are two or three failures, Reed said. Wang does not yet know how her body will be affected. “Everest is a different kind of animal," Reed said. “You’ve really got to be one tough bird to get up there.
