JEhr Daily Oar Hrrl UNDEFEATED FROM PAGE 16 tory to have her jersey No. 9 retired. During the offseason, three Tar Heels are playing in the highest stage of international competition: the Olympics. The USA Field Hockey team is competing in the Olympic Qualifier in Kazan, Russia, to earn a berth in the 2008 Summer Games. Dawson, with teammates Katelyn Falgowski and Jesse Gey, will join former UNC players Kate barber, Carrie Lingo and Amy Tran to represent the United States. Altogether, UNC supplies one third of the 18 active players on NBA QUESTIONS FROM PAGE 16 At that night's press confer ence, Wayne Ellington, Tyler Hansbrough and TV Lawson were forced to address questions about the NBA Draft and their future prospects as Tar Heels. “1 haven’t thought about that at all. I was just focused on the season," Ellington said after the game. “I’m definitely going to talk to my parents and, you know, see." More than two weeks later, no news has emerged, forcing UNC fans to play the guessing game until April 27s deadline to declare for the draff. Their contributions earned them first round selections in the WNBA Draff. Fittingly, their names were called back-to-back. Pringle went to the Phoenix Mercury with the 13th overall pick, and Larkins was called by the New York Liberty at 14. While the two seniors solidified the Tar Heels’ core, their support ing cast played essential parts in the historic season. Rashanda McCants took the momentum from the end of her sophomore campaign to become a scoring threat from every spot on the court. “We needed more scoring on the perimeter and some more dribble penetration and all, and Rashanda has really stepped up and done much more of that," Hatched said. McCants got help on the perimeter from freshman Cetera DeGraffenreid. The point guard had the challenge of taking over the position after Miller’s injury, and the transition was nearly seamless. “I don’t know if another fresh man has done more for a team than what (DeGraffenreid) has done," Hatched said. The Tar Heels also got the pro duction they needed off the bench. Jessica Breland was named the PTH CLASSIFIEDS Roommates 4BR SUMMER SUBLET Comer urn! Not only did she average double figures, but her baskets always seemed to come when UNC needed a spark. Next year she’ll likely be leading the team down low on her own. Again. UNC will graduate two of its top players. But if this year is any indication, new Tar Heels will step up to fill the spots and keep UNC a national contender. As the fastest team in the nation to 35 wins, UNC has racked up some Ws that speak for them selves, including its most recent 11-game winning streak and a 17-0 obliteration of Charlotte on Tuesday. But still, the true challenges for North Carolina’s season remain. Perennial national powerhouses Miami and Florida State are still to come on the schedule, as is Virginia.
