The Lemelson-MIT Prize evalu ates L'.S. inventors who are in their mid-career, own at least two U.S. patents and have an invention in medicine and health care, comput ers and telecommunications, con sumer products, energy and envi ronment or industrial products. The prize is considered one of the most prestigious inventing awards in the country. Previous winners include inventors of the Segway, the first walkie-talkie and the first prac tical light-emitting diode (LED).
