2 FRIDAY, AUGUST 22, 2008 Dose Woman gives birth to her grandchild FROM STAFF AND WIRE REPORTS A6l-year-old Japanese woman gave birth to her grandchild, after being artificially inseminated with her daughter’s fertilized egg. According to news reports, the woman is the oldest to give birth in Japan, let alone to her own grandchild. “Both surrogate mother and baby were fine,” said Chiro Netsu, a spokeswoman for the Suwa Maternity Clinic in Nagano, Japan, where the baby was bom. The spokeswoman said the clinic performed the procedure because the woman’s daughter had no uterus, but didn’t say why that was the case. At Suwa maternity clinic, also in Japan, eight surrogate mothers have given birth. Of the eight, four used fertilized eggs from their daughters. NOTED. A Wisconsin woman was arrested for failing to pay her library fines. After ignoring the library’s calls and a notice to appear in court, Heidi Dalibor, 20, was cuffed and taken to the police station to be fin gerprinted and photographed. She paid S3O for the overdue paperbacks, “White Oleander” and “Angels and Demons,” and about $172 to get out of custody.
