The formula for the new number is (2P -1), where P equals 43,112,609, also a prime number. “We’re delighted,” said UCLA’s Edson Smith, who led the effort. “Now we’re look ing for the next one, despite the odds.” Thousands globally participate in the Great Internet Mersenne Prime Search, or GIMPS, and the odds that any given number is a Mersenne prime is about one in 150,000. This is the eighth discovered by UCLA. NOTED. A Los Angeles man faces charges of stealing a Dodger’s uniform from the sta dium and walked on the field, posing as one of the team players. The 47-year-old man pleaded not guilty to his criminal charges, which include burglary and trespassing. Prosecutors say that after the incident, the uni form was found in the bat boy’s locker room. Police responded to an alarm call just before 5 a.m. from Spunky’s Restaurant at 101 E. Franklin St., reports state. They found Barry Nelson McCoy, 56 of 100 W. Rosemary St., inside the restaurant drink ing alcohol, according to police reports. He faces a charge of felony breaking and larceny, according to reports. Reports state he was confined at Orange County Jail in lieu of $1,500 bail and is expected in court Monday. ■ Someone broke into a car parked in a Chapel Hill lot and stole S2OO worth of equipment, according to Chapel Hill police reports. Reports state that the window of a car parked on Chapel Hill Boulevard was broken Friday and a GPS unit and radar detector removed.
