Alumni reunions this week
SCOTT POWERS
SENIOR WRITER
Unlike in high school, UNC
Homecoming is just as much
about almuni as it is about current
students.
Every year the General Alumni
association hosts RAMpage in
conjunction with Homecoming to
encourage alumni presence and
the tradition.
This will be the third year of
RAMpage after what organiz
ers deemed a successful first two
years.
The class and affinity reunions
are the focal point of alumni events
during the week.
This year it will be the classes
of 1983,1988,1993, 19998 and
2003 celebrating anniversaries in
Chapel Hill
Class reunions for older classes
are held during Reunion Weekend
in the Spring.
This May 8 to May 10 of 2009,
the classes of 1959, 1964 and
1969 will reunite, as will the Old
Students Club.
The Old Students Club, which

The Clef Hangers, sponsored by the GAA, came to the Carolina Inn to
meets every year, is for former
students who graduated at least
50 years before each Reunion
Weekend.
An affinity reunion is one for
members of a paticular group or
student organization, most com
monly multicultural fraternities
and sororities and other Greek
organizaions.
Other affinity reunions sched
uled for Homecoming are for stu
dent publications Blue & White
Magazine and The Daily Thr Heel,
the UNC band, American Indian
Center Open House and the
Student Membership Advisory
Board of the GAA.
Aside from the class and affin
ity reunuions, there are also many
events targeted toward alumni,
all of which can be found on the
GAA’s Web site.
Many of the events require
no advance registration, like the
reunions do.
In an event not advertised
to students, Chancellor Holden
Thorp will meet with visitors at
8:30 a.m. Friday at the Campus Y
Homecoming 2008
with coffee and bagels.
Some events are about talks by
interesting alumni and University
personalities.
At 11 a.m. Friday, there will be
talks give about University admis
sions, Play Makers Repertory
Company, the FedEx Global
Education Center and economic
issues.
Another goal of the events is
to raise money for nonprofits.
The third annual UNC Dance
Marathon Golf Tournament and
barbecue and the Homecoming
concert to benefit the Eve Carson
Junior-Year Merit Scholarship are
expected to draw large crowds.
However, there are some events
that have already reached their
capacities.
Carolina Basketball Memories
and the two-and-a-half-hour
campus walking tour The Old,
the New, the Blue will not be
accepting new registrants this
weekend.
