I\vo simple movements, but for Tate it’s a workout The grimace on his face and his shaking right leg can attest to that As much as it hurts, and as much as Tate sometimes wants to hit the snooze button and skip the training room, he knows that’s what he’s got to do if he wants to continue on his path to the pros. He said he hopes to be close to 90 percent, if not 100 percent, ,for February’s NFL combine in Indianapolis, Ind. There, he has just one goal. “To show the scouts I’m not dead. I’m back to finish what I started, because I feel like I left a lot on the field,” Tate said. “I felt like I haven’t reached my peak yet out there.” But Tate’s life at UNC isn’t all preparation for the NFL. He still finds ways to make his presence felt by the Thr Heels. He watches each game from his house UNC doesn’t want him on the sidelines during games for fear of further injury —and always lets junior Hakeem Nicks know his take on the game. “I talk to him right after the game, and we talk about different situations and he’s always giving advice,” Nicks said. “He helps out a lot.” And with all the time he spends in the training room, Tate is still around the program enough not to be forgotten. State. North Carolina sits at 7-3 and on the cusp of a nice bowl invitatioq. For the first time since Oct. 11, Tate will appear on the field before a packed house, and because of that the Tar Heels have more incentive to knock off their in-state rival. They want to put on an entertaining show for their broken star. “We definitely, as a wide receiver group, want to send him out with a good game,” Nicks said. “We want to show him how much he meant to us as a brother and just show him that we still care for him, and we’re still here for him.” Contact the Sports Editor at sports@unc.edu. For each one-hour shift of the night, as many as 100 students might be guarding the well. For this reason, he said he doesn’t expect to meet any would-be Wolfpack vandals. But Vance and Penny said the event is more about having fun and laying the foundation for a tradition surrounding UNC football. “We’re trying to come up with The Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life proudly announces Gamma Sigma Alpha National Greek Honor Society Fall 2008 Class Membership Requirements Junior or Senior Status 3.50 Cumulative GPA Outstanding Scholarship to the UNC-CH Campus and Greek Community Limited to the Top 3% of Greeks at UNC-CH Eric Anderson, Pi Lambda Phi Sorority Christian Bartsch, Alpha Delta Pi Sorority Keri Berman, Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority Elizabeth Broome, Alpha Chi Omega Alexis Nichole Brown, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Jennings Carpenter, Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity Ginny Carter, Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority Jessica Case, Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority Lisa Chen, Alpha Chi Omega Sorority Kathryn Childress, Alpha Chi Omega Sorority Erin Clarke, Alpha Chi Omega Sorority Amanda Cox, Phi Beta Chi Fraternity Madeleine Crawford, Alpha Delta Pi Sorority Laurie Curns, Kappa Delta Sorority Lauryn D’Angelo, Alpha Chi Omega Sorority Elizabeth Darden, Kappa Delta Sorority Megan Dillard, Alpha Chi Omega Sorority May Doan, Alpha Delta Pi Sorority Kelsey Donnalley, Alpha Delta Pi Will Eldridge, Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity Christine Ezzell, Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority Renee Falduti, Alpha Chi Omega Sorority Sacha Feinman, Sigma Rho Lambda Ashley Felton, Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority Victoria Fischer, Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority Jessica Friedman, Kappa Delta Sorority Michelle Giannini, Alpha Delta Pi Sorority Amy Plyler, Kappa Delta Sorority Megan Elizabeth Gil, Phi Beta Chi Sorority Kristen Glaeser, Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority Richard Shore, Chi Psi Fraternity Lauren Skidmore, Alpha Delta Pi Sorority Sarah Beth Smith, Alpha Chi Omega Sorority Katlin Smith, Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority Ashton Smith, Alpha Delta Pi Sorority Martha Marion Smith, Alpha Delta Pi Sorority Jessica Kickers, Alpha Chi Omega Sorority Kristin Warmbold, Alpha Chi Omega Sorority Natalie Watanasiriroch, Alpha Delta Pi Sorority “Were all on the same page. He upped the percentage of the increase going to faculty salaries from 30 to 35 percent, in deference to Bowles’ mandate that campuses reach the 80th percentile of their peer institutions in faculty pay. “Were trying to come up with innovative initiatives to get people to involved with Carolina sports.” STEPHEN VANCE, Carolina fever co-chairman innovative initiatives to get people involved with Carolina sports,” Vance said. “It seems like there’s a big buzz about this. Thursday’s retaliation dis appointed UNC senior Jade Verheije. “I think it’s taking it too far,” she said. “It’s just a game, really.” Sophomore Evan Watchempino, a transfer student from the University of California at Los Angeles, said he barely noticed the words, which blended in among the bricks. He said the latest prank paled in comparison to the UCLA- University of Southern California rivalry, where students would pull fire alarms or spray pepper spray at games. N.C. State Senior Class President Adam Compton, who comes from a seven-generation line of UNC graduates, called the vandalism childish. “It’s disappointing that State students or whoever it was would stoop that low,” he said. “Go put up fliers. Go do something else instead of doing something where some one else is going to have to clean up after you. It’s kind of immature.” Contact the University Editor at udesk@unc.edu. 5
