youth's sParwt: TeVay to impress Truth on the Mlmlof aCliiW TLe mother of Dr. Samnol Johnson Wai a woman of good eeiisc ana prac tical piety. She was instrumental m early impressing the mind of her eon with religious principles. H aul that he distinctly remomberert hving had the first notice of heaven 'a place to which good people go,' and 'hull, a place to wLisu hd people go,' com municated to him by bor when a Ut ile child in bod with her; and that it might be the better fixed in his mem ory, she sent him to repeat it to her man servant. The servant being out of the way, this was no; done; but there was no need for any artificial means for its preservation. The Dr. adds: 'Children should bo always en couragod to tell what they hear, tlnv id particularly striking, to Bouse frw ltd immediately, before the impression w trasod by intervention (t uesv occur rences.' A bankrupt merchant, returning home one night said to Ms noble wife: My dear, I am ruiced; everything we have is iu the hands of the Sheriff! One of the Eumc-r-ous methods of inflicting capital pun ishmect in China is that which de prives the condemned of eleep, uud which generally proves fatal after ten days. Five foolish young Belgians tried th?s experiment the o'.her day with more or hrsa unpleasant eilects They bet that ihey conid remain awako fur seven days, on condition of resorting to every conceivable means for averting Bleep. The manner in which they arranged their time was as follows: The night was paused in dancing and drinking coii.ee ; daring the day they rode horbcback, shot or fenced, t&kiug coffee every half hour. One cf the young men graced the w uger, hut lost twenty five pounds of nesb; tv.o went to sleep after having been up 130 hours, one was seized with inftaamtiun of the lungs, and the fifth vvas cor-4'dtreu by sleep on horse back, fell oil' and broke an arm. Tei: coming farmer will icquire more sleep and better icod than seme of the old school philosophers rtcom mecded. He will tat more meat, and use more coffee aad less tobacco and whiskev. Iloi-KRS farming demands energetic work. We can not plod along iu the old beaten track. We must hart our wits about us; all our faculties must bo bright and active. Gates are as easily rn the common bus or slip gaps and more economical to the fai mr.r. It doee not require a mechanic to make them. Symptoms of a Diseased Liver. PAIN in the right side, under the edge of the ribs, increases on pressure ; sometimes the pain is in the left side ; the patient is rarely able to lie on the left side ; sometimes the pain is felt under the shoulder-blade, and it frequently extends to the top of the shoulder, and is some times mistaken for a rheumatism in the arm. The stomach is affected with loss of appetite and sickness; the bowels in general are costive, sometimes alternative with lax; the head is troubled with pain, accompanied with a dull, heavy sensation in the back part. There is ge nerally a considerable loss of memory, accompanied with a painful sensation u having left undone something which ought to have been done. A slight, dry cough is sometimes an attendant. The patient complains of weariness and debility ; he is easily startled, his feet are cold or burn ing, and he complains of a prickly sensa tion of the skin ; his spirits are low ; and although he is satisfied that exercise would be beneficial to him, yet he can scarcely summon up fortitude enough to try it. In fact, he distrusts every remedy. Se veral of the above symptoms attend the disease, but cases have occurred where few of them existed, vet examination of the bodv, after death, has shown the li ver to have been extensively deranged. AGUE AND FEVER. Dr.. C. M'Lane's Liver Pills, in cases of Ague and Fever, when taken with Quinine, are productive of the most happy results. No better cathartic can be used, preparatory to, or after taking Quinine. We would advise all who are afflicted with this disease to give them a fair TRIAL.
