Old Corn Supply Enddrsisi Vance Weekly Commercial News- Drouglit. i. Hyde County, October 15. -A few days ago I noticed in a copy jof the Daily News that Hyde county corn was scarce in New Berne market, an4 it was attributed to our farmers holding their corn back for a higher price. News went so far as te caution and the thetn of i I thfi dftnerer ol sunn tollv. aa better 7 1 F . T were made in the Western counties than crops expected; besides the Western States would supply the cut off sections of the State ac the present remunerative prices. This is an error on the part News, as rar as onr farmers ;or the holding back their corn;, for instead of holding 1 ' " I back their corn they have fingerefd deep tn their bread orn and at the (iate this article referred to, many of our far mers bad sold ihe last barrel of o they had; and all were forced to a corn go - to to-day, their fields for October 15th, i feed corn, ani is scarcely dry Senough to grind. Our soil in some places is inexhausti ble, but our crops exhaustible.! From November tor next April, however, we will pour in our corn in such abundance as to astonish the very elect. . . Many thanks for the supplement coti taining the letter of Gov. Vance.j It has opened our eyes to many thinge. May the Governor be spare i yet many yeats of usefulness. " j ! We may say that the paper is now fairly on its way to a permanent success, and can reasonably congratu late ourselves upon having demonstrated the feasibility of maintaining a live daily paper in New Berne; and we have not done our best jet, either. Before the Commercial News is three months old we expect 'to have it enlarged, and in all respects ths equal of any paper ever pub lished in the State. Steam Tug Belle Sparks. The Belle Sparks, Capt. O. J. Parker, o Buffalo, on her way t the west coast of Florida, to ply between the Suwanee River and Cedar Keys, towing lumber for the Mexican Central Railway, called at this port yesterday for coal. By some misapprehension of nis information at the office of the Albemarle' and Chesa peake Canal Company 'and mistaking the charts that are marked out to show the proposed line of inland navigation, connecting Neuse River with Beaufort Harbor, Captain" Parker attempted to enter and pass through the Harlowe Creek Canal, instead of going through Core Sound, and stack hard aground. The Sparks is one of the finest tugs ever in our waters: bran new ; painted white with red 6tripe ; draws fire feet; twin propellers ; condensing steel boiler ; and machinery throughout of the beat manufacture and latest improved pat terns.
