Fish Culture.
On the 10th of March Hast, Mr.

Bryant Merritt, one of the substan
tial and successful farmers of . Sam
pson county, received from the Fish

,carp. When first received the fish
averaged about two and a half
: inches , in length. Mr. Merritt
placed them in a small pond near
his house, which he had previously
prepared for their reception. The
pond covers an area of about ono-
fourth of an acre, and in the deep
est part is about five feet deep. In

the common perch. As they were
placed in the water at a time when
ho was very busy with his crop op
erations for the season, Mr. Merritt
paid but little attention to them
