Large Arrival! of Fish Fhom Morehead. Mr. Daniel Bell, of More--head, arrived in the Sharpie Julia yes terday, with six thousand mullets two thousand spots, besides six hundred and seventy 'five bunches of fish in tuba. He brought them to this market to dispose of in consequence of the present running of the train, it being Saturday, and no fish traffic up the: roads on Sun day, he says. Work on thk Midland Extension Of the progress of grading the M dland Road west of Goldsboru, the Messenger says:- j 'The work of grading on tbe Midland North Carolina Road has been accom plished to a point some seven miles from tlijs city and within about two miles of the Johnston county line. We; learn that about 400 hands are at work, and MrW.G. Brown, who has charge of tiie construction force, is pushing it with all possible dispatch. The contract for the brrdge acr ss Little River has been awarded, and no time is to be lost in its completion. It is to be a temporary structure, to be replaced at a later period by an iron bridge. Yesterday we were shown by Capt. J. WT. Andrews, the courteous and gentlemanly engineer and assistant superintendent of the Midland drawings and specifications of several imposing buildings now inonteraplation of being put up by. the Midland at or in the vicinity of New Berne. They are j intended for extensive machine shops, be about 830,0e0. Dock Improvement. Mr. J. - A, Meadows has the steam dredge deepening tne water front at his mill yesterday. These dock improvement were, a great necessity to the commercial interests of New Berne and they should be attended to while the dredge l9 here. Almost every dock in the city wants deepening and this is the opportunity. Water on Beaufort Bar. The Telephone eays:-i-A careful sounding made by some of our pilots, and Capt. j Do ighty of the schooner K. J. Willard on Tuesday last, developed the fact that we have 26 J feet of water on the bar. This report seems in all respects to be reliabie, as the soundings were carefully made. What Southerri port can beat it ? Our Climate. New Berne is now in the enjoyment of fine fall weather. We believe there is no city on the Atlantic coast, or" in the South, possessing a cli mate at all comparable to ours, and as a winter climate -New Berne is nowhere equalled. For a pleasant winter resi dence, this city presents claims so su perior to all Florida points that they are not to be 1 mentioned in the same con nection, and we look to the Midland Company to advertise I New Berne as a winter residence to the Northern ppople.
