THE HOME RULE. SI.OO A YEAR. PrBUSHED WEEKLY AT RLEIOH IN. C, BY THE HOME RULE FIBLISHING CO. - R. A. COBB. Borrow. Entered t the Post-office t Raldgb as . seconl cUs matter. If you receive a sample copy of Tire Home Rulk this week, it is an invitation for you to read the paper carefully, and send your name and the cash aa a subscriber. One dollar a year, or 25 cents for the campaign. 'We want to thank our esteem ed brother of the Hickory OF COURSE TriEf WOUiB IHPIACH HlU. The Raleigh correspondent of the Charlotte Observer, gives it out as coming from Chairman Simmons, lhat it is a settled fact that Governor Russell will be impeached. Now, Bro. Olds, in your labored eflorts, you ought to give the people fresh npurs and not something that everybody knows. We all know that if through fraud and cor ruption, ballot-box stuffing, and counting out votes, if the Demo cratic party 6hould again get hi power in this State, Gov. Rus sell's head would be the first to fall under the executioners axe, if for nothing else simply because he has been heard to say "We must all stand together and beat th Democrats. And like in Press for giving space to a num ber of The HomeJIule editorials the days of the French Massacre; last week. We take it that we these blood-thirsty and pie-hun- must be on the right track. Another friend the negro racket, with the Rus i the central part of the State, sen and Mewboorne cartoon orders one hundred copies, with thrown in, will not divide our same, instructions. CD-CftHAT ALL DOWN THE LINE. - 1 - , If we fife tdnave co-operatiori between Pdpuilsts and Republi cans we- trust it will be carried out in good faith in every county in .the State, from the lowest to the highest office. In counties when a Populist is a candidate, every Republican is expected to support that candidate. , Inlike manner, when a republican is a candidate, every Populist is expected to support the Republi can; anything short of this would not be acting in good faith. The same rule should apply, to Con gressmen, Judges and Solici tors in all the districts, Take, for instance,-Solicitor for the 10th Judicial District, Mr. Moses N. Harshaw, a Republi can, the nominee of his party for that office, and who has acted in good faith towards the Popu lists, in every instance, voting for Populists on every occasion, and evpects to vote the same ticke this year, in his own county where Populists and Republicans fuse and men from both parties are candidates We learn tha his opponent will run as an inde pendent Democrat, hoping in that way to get the support o Democrats and Populists. Now the late so-called Democratic State Convention made no pro visions for such a position. You must .be straight Democrats or nothing, and the only way that Populists could vote such a ticket would be to squeeze in at the back door. Mr. Harshaw, be ing in favor of fusion, and throw ing all his influence in that way, there is but one course for Popu lists to pursue, and that is to vote for Harshaw for Solisitor, and thus expect the support of all his friends for every Populist candi date in the field. sionist was'elects'd sheriff itl that count' .at the last election, but the . conditions for ' giving ; his bonci were so exacting that the Democratic commissioners ruled him out and put In Teague. We also learn that instead of the county bonds, being worth fifty cents on the dollar they can't be sold for anything. Judge Rob inson, who held the last term of court for the county, could, we suppose, tell something of the county's fihancies. Yet Swain is held up to the people ofthe State as a' model western Demo cratic county. ap- tion, and Judge Robinson's wish would be carried out. ' . Thanks to Judge Robinson, for one dollar subscription to The Home Rule for one year, amd we certainlr appreciate the kini words he had to say about the fact in every -instance, when the paper says there ought to be the Governor or any ofthe heads a thousand copies distributed of any department have showp a weekly in every county in the disposition to recognize or give Shite. Brother, we are working the Democrats representation, to that 'point, and, if our friends they have taken advantage of will exert themselves a little more ine "lnaness ana meir appointees THEY SHOULD ALL BE REMOVED. As the leaders of the Demo cratic party in this Slate have proven themselves utterly i icom petent to appreciate a favor from the end will soon be accom plished. . Oa the day after the Republi can Judicial Convention met in Raleigh a quiet, conservative Democrat of Raleigh remarked to us that he could not see the object of Jo. Daniels exaggera tion and misrepresentation, for he must know that reaction will take place, and when the truth comw his false statements will fall have blocked the wheels of pro gress in their departments, or assumed the duty of a spy, and nearly all the devilment and misrepresentation Jias come througljthis source. Therefore we are in favor of removing the last mother's son of them. Meas ure corn to both sides out of the same half bushel. If the Demo crats were in power .they would neither eat aor sleep until every Ponnllst and Rfmibl?mn in tVi fiat; said he was present at the ei . Everything was changed and After a very harmonious and made to appear after Mr. Dan- enthusiastic meeting of the Re- JENNETTE HELPING THE FUSIONKSTS. If Mr.' Daniels suffers any in- convenienre in raising Mr. Jen- nette's salary, if he will just call on Populists and Republicans we have no doubt they will come to his rescue and make up the deficiency, rather than see him leave theState, for if he will just continue the work as started in the Nevs and Observer until the election, he will solidify the men both in the Populist and Repub lican parties, until every man will be ready to make any sac rifice to down a party that has abandoned all principle, reason, and sound argument to try to convince men that they are right' and have gone to square out ly ing, backed by cartoons .that represent nothing nobody and that the devil himself would be ashamed of. The : people are too firmly fixed in their principle and have access to too much RE-ACTION WILL FOLLOW. The Demora's have started their cnmpaV, with misrepiye sentfction, or in plain .terms, re gular lying, for at every itt!e coss rbad meeting they hal the next day and in some instances t e same day, it will appear in their papers' under big head-lines, great enthusiasm, immense crowd present, speeches had a wonder ful effect, populists coming back home, Democrats going to carry the county by overwhelming majorities, and perfect harmony prevails. - - j ' ; But the reaction will come, and when the" true report js had no inthusiasm, probably a baker's dozen outside of the women and children speeches fell flat. No Populists comirjg back home, (through the back door)" Populists and Republicans will carry the county by an increased majority, and instead of harmony, every Democrat that fails to get an of fice or has 'one in sight, is tear ing up the ground, and swearing he will not support the ticket. But the people are so used to these Democratic lies, having heard them allheir lives. When a fellow reads these flaming re poits, his reply is, I have heard that before, and I will wait until ;et the correct account, for I don't believe one word that these Democratic papers say during a campaign. rTHE AfiVIC 07 CHAIRUaS H0LT0N No matt' who appreciates his citizenship and his right to vote and have that vote countea can afford to neglect to do all in his power to secure the election of a legislature pledged to maintain the purity of the ballot and his right to choose his local officers. If the Democrats get "control ofthe next legislature they not content themselves with tablishing "bull-pens" to vote in and the adoption of, other means to rob the people ot their rignis at the ballot box used by them in elections prior to 1896, but will impose upon us methods similar to the South Carolina audi Mis sissippi election laws. I think th'e Populists fully predate this and are a unit in desinnsr to protect the ballot-box with local self-government, and I would advise you to co-operate wiih them to secure a aeciaea victory for the rights of the peo- pie. 1 he preservation 01 a pure ballot is of the highest import ance. The progress and pros perity ot our Staje "and happi ness of our people are in greater danger from an unjust and frau dulent election law than from all other causes growing out of leg isjation. With a pure ballot the oeoole can correct evils, ! but with the ballot box in the hands of unscrupulous politicians with authority to make returns to or- der wef become political siaves without power to break chains that bind us. - J' The administration of finances of both the State and county government by the ice publicans and Populists for the last two years is a source of grat ification both to the tax-payers and to our political organizations and fully demonstrates the fact that the people are capable of local self-government. When the Democrats prefer charges demand of them that they specify and furnish proof. Respectfully, A. E. Holton, Chm'n. Rep. State Ex.
