THE ANTI-SALOON
BILL IN DURHAM
The Ministers" Association of Dur
ham, in view of the impression which
has gone out from certain notices In
the press regarding the reception given
the London anti-sa'.oon bill, desire to
muke the folowlng statements:
The impression that a large number
of the citizens of Durham have been
approached and are opposed to the
London bill is erroneous. The minis
ter who Is said; to have met with but
Indifferent success in ootainmg sigu:i-
tures to his petition only approached
a few, citizens wnose aiinuutr w'j
this bill was unknown. Most of the?-"
declined to sign the" petition: If the
hundreds of men In Durham known to
favor any legislation looking to a set
tlement of tho liquor problem he ap
proached none, j His purpose was to
discover the attitude of some whose
attitude he did .not know.
Other petitions have bean, circulated
and large numbers have signed them.
There 1 a strong public sentiment in
favor of the London bill in its en
tirety. 1
The movement has not been put to
the test In Durham, but it shall be
soon. In the meantime we have rea
son to fel very i hopeful for the suc
cess of the. mea suree. and desire to
