Monroe police who had been notified were at the depot, and when they: attempted to arrest the two men the latter opened fire at close range with revolvers. Over twenty shots were exchanged, the robbers firing as they ran. but no one was injured on cither 'side. The police returned, or ganized a posse and then set out in pursuit.
