It was in the main a day of realizing
in which so far as its underlying char
acter is ; concerned has undergone lit
tle or no change. The Liverpool mar
ket, howeVery das disappointing to bulls
failing to show at first "the strength
expected of it, though why. that market
should continue uninterruptedly to ad
vance any more than the market here
is not altogether clear. One explana
tion of the opening depression in Liv
erpool, however, that prices there were
subject to pressure from this side in
order to facilitate purchases in New
ork,- presumably for short account.
However this may be, there was a rally
later on in Liverpool and for a-time
New York prices also advanced. This
was the result not only of a certain
amount ' of bulllish support, but also
of larger miscellaneous buying through
private wire houses which collected not
a little to. make the total transactions
for the day at the cotton exchange tho
largest for some weeks. Moreover, the
leading Wall street bear was ceridted

considerable amount' of shorts. Leading
bulls in the rooms and outside bought
and bid the market for a time and then
turned and sold so heavtly that the
oarlyad vance was practically wiped
out. In the meanwhile, however, spot
markets advanced in a number of cas3
-cents. ' . ,
