The pressure from the Mississippi river to the Pacific has fallen. There is an area of depression over the Texas coast and also on of considerable in tensity central over Utah. The tem perature has risen in the northern por tion of the country from the Atlantic coast to Montana, Idaho and Utah, and has fallen from these states westward. The highest maximum was 98 degrees at Phoenix. Partly cloudy and cloudy conditions prevail, -and rain has fallen In the northwest and southwest por tions of the country. Mr. John Kerr, for many years chair man of the Democratic executive com mittee in Sampson county, and a lead ing lawyer of Clinton, was here yes terday. "The farmers in my section are in better shape than In many years," said Mr. Kerr, "and Sampson is coming to the front." In the police court yesterday Mr. E. V. Denton was fined $3.95 for dis orderly conduct, in that he used strong language to a negro who came near running over . him. The negro, An thony Griffls, paid $3.15 for reckless driving. Rosabelle Johnson was fined 17.75 for being disorderly. . The law profession seems on the boom at Plttsboro, Chatham county. Mr. Henry M. London remarked yes terday that four new lawyers had lo cated there. They are Mr. Elmer Long of the firm of Long & Long, Mr. TVade Reavis, formerly of YadkhyMr. Fred. TV. Bynum, with TVomack & Hayes, and Mr. R. H. Dixon, former clerk of the court. Pittsboro already had three lawyers, Maj. H. A. London, Mr. R.H. Hayes and Mr. Henry M. London. Rev. G. C. Huntington of Charlotte, tri-state secretary of the Young Men's Christian Association, was in the city yesterday and spent a portion of the day. at the A. and M. College with the young men connected with the associa tion of that institution.. The A. and M. will have a fine association thi year, and the enrollment will be larger than ever before. Mr. Huntington re ports that nearly every school of con sequence and college has its T. M. C. A. branch and much work- is being done among the students. city. Mr. R..B.
