Sum .lone j stirring up Charlotte at l.aiye, and Saiety" in Particular. Sim .Iouoh's sermon in Charlotte on 1 haw tonght a gojtl tight," &c, woko up the people. As Sain says himself what ho says ''sticks liko cockle- burrs on sheep's wool, ami they'll bo there when ho is sheared." We make a few of the more spicy extracts from his sermon: Conviction Nut Opinion. You say you havo as much right to your opitiioos as anybody. Yes; but no m m has auy right to any opinion on any moral question. Put God's straight edge to it, and find out whether you are rignt. U't us have convictions, or uoth iug. St. Paul was true as steel to his con victions until the day of his death. I liko ouo of those fellows who, when ho com s on God's side, comes to stay, and can't bo bought olT, tolled oft:, orskeered i. IV. Son i o of you little dudes can be tilled off with a titldle. If I had a daughter whose head e mldn't be traiued, I'd send her to a dancing master and huo her heels trained, so tbat she could go into a hut room and fool some dude. And i I' er stie got him, I would stnd tlk-in .tT in the couutry, and tell them n-t to come back to my house again, be c.i J.HO I might havo compauy the day they cam. Hut 1 hear a good old sUtor tay: ".Mr. Jones, if w: don't push our daughters they'll bo old maids." Maybe y.-ur ?Hrt needs pushing, but bless yom lioui, the smart, sweet girls needs no pushing. Men will travel a thousand miles to tind them, and will marry th'-ui, too. Society." 1 understand you all are running "so ciety" pretty lively. Society! A pair of 7i cent tdippers and a dollar and a quar ter wasp bonnet, lets you into it. Soci ety iu Charlotte! Why, if you were to go atnoug tho bon tons of Ualtimore, they wouldn't let you sweep out their kitclieus. .Society! There is no manhood, uo wo manhood, no religion in it. Tho fruits of society, so called, are tho dude and tho d inline. The dude is a wart on the devil's big toe, the dudine a wart on his nosj, more excreiences. I always get in trouble with "society." I liko to jump on it and stamp the feathers off it so; and after you stamp tho feathers off. tlir ain't much left. The best aud truest people in North Carolina were never in society, so-called, in their lives. Niht-teuths of tne young folks are af ter a good time, and nine-tenths of the old I oiks are after mouoy. You can take a nickel aud toll the old ones to the devil, und take a fiddle, or a deck of cards, or a baseball game for tho youug ones. You know I'm talking God's truth. A Word to Preacher Ymi preachers had better preach more on this subject. I have heard preachers preach abo it "heavenly recognition " I never preached a sermo.i on that subject in my life. I want recognition down hrre. When I get to heaven, sitting under a palm tree and fantuog myself, I don't care whether anybody recognizes me or not. You 11 hear some Methodist pastor preach an hour on "infant bap tism;" tho Episcopal rector on "Apos tolic succession," trying to tell people wuero they came from, when he had better bo telling them where they are go ing to; tho riesbytenan on "the hnal persevereuce of the saints," when half of his hearers haven't got anything to persevere on; and tho Baptist preacher crying "Water!" when half his crowd aro going where tney can t get a drop. When 1 hear one of these little fallows on "Faith," say I feel like somebody 'h hitting ino over tho head with an In dia rubber bladder. It doesn't 'hurt me, but only annoys me. Church Uaaar. The eyelet of a corset seems a trifle to make a business on ; but what if one eyelet cuts the laces, while another eye let don't? And what if the eyelet that cuts is in universal use ? And what if the eyelet that cuts the laces also rusts the corset ? And what if the eyelet that cuts is not so neat and proper and womanlike as the other ? And what if it costs as little or less to put in and never comes out or wears out ? The new eyelet is made of loops of corset lace instead of metal. The Ball and Kabo corsets have it ; the Ball is the easy corset, the Kabo the one that does not yield a barleycorn. You can wear them two or three weeks and return to where you got them, if you want to. The makers provide you that privilege. W. H. & R. S.
