Movement of the Staple in Raleigh lor the Past Week. The Lawyer of Willie Davis Appeals . to His Kelatives ana friends in North Carolina for Relief. ihe readers or the Chronicle are familiar with the case of Willie l).ivis, a native of Chapel Hill, who is now under sentence of death in Texas, He has relatives in Raleigh, Winston, near Ashe vine and in Orange and Durham coun ties. During his trial Mr. Julian S. Carr, of Durham, who is iu no way re lated to him, sent $200 to ai 1 in his de fense. His lawyer, Brown G Johnson, of Fort Worth, Texas, has taken an an- largely peal to the Supreme court of the United Jii very- States and is anxious and wiIIidl' to do all that he can to save Davis from the gallows. The lawyer writes to Mr. Carr (the letter is published in the Durham Globe), saying that he is a poor man and that he has done all he can to save Davis, but he cannot take money out of his pocket to pay the coot of the transcript. The cost of the transcript is $125, and Mr. Johnson writes to Mr. Carr that if Davis's relatives and friends in North Carolina will pay that amount he will do all that he can freelv to savo Davis. December 5th is the last day al lowed by law for Mr. Johnson to pay for the transcript and send it to the Su- in German From 50 to We Have Sixtv-Fiie Cases of Hoots and Shoes to Open on To-Morrow. When you see these goods and hear the prices you will think that instead of the tariff bill making them higher that any tax that might have been on them before had all been taken off and that the McKinley bill had surely been re pealed. We have never been able to buy sach elegant goods at such low prices in cur experience. We don't be lieve in luck or chance, but it was surely only an accident that we secured these gocds at tbe nominal figures we paid for them. Now you know, I know, and every one iu Raleigh knows that we have always sold shoes of all kinds lower than any house in the city. Well this new stock will discount any goods we have shown you in both price and finish. We have got the best thing in boots and shoes we ever had.
