SOME OF THE EXHIBITS, The Crowd SmaU-Thi Because Low Hate Went In Only Today Much Work Being Done. ; At the grounds there was every indication that the Fair will be a saooees; Floral nail is not yet runy adorned with exhibits, bat the work ers form a young army; tbe crowd, too, was small but this is explained by the fact, in addition to that of opening day, that the one cent rates were put on only this morning, the exhibits promise to be good, the rao ing will be the beet ever seen and altogether there is no reason why the Fair will not be a grand success, The Fair was formally opened at 19 o'olock by Governor Carr in a talk, rather than an address. He was in- troduoed by President J. S. Carr, of Durham. The band played and the people shouted and went hurrying awaylln response to the vociferously worded invitations of the midway gods. Space forbids mention of all tbe exhibits and the people that the re porter saw and talked to. Suffice It to say that a day at the Fair is well spent; and that Chief Marshal rat terson and his dashing assistants are as jolly and brave and handsome a set of Knights as eyr did honor to their native State. The stables are filled with blooded trotters and runners, and this morn ing the pneumatjo wheels were spin ning ovef the traok. Tbe midway is well calculated to catch and 'detain tbe visitor, bat flavors strongly of fakes. There is one really meritorious show, the Noah's Ark' ot animals; and the "spinning jenny " goetta merrily on. There Is lots to see ; and many are they who will see the sights. SEVERELY CRITICISED.
