IT HAY IiE VILAS.
Probable Choice of Gold Democrats for
President.
An Iadianapoite special, to the
' 7 Washington Times says:
More than, 600 delegates to the na
tional sound money convention have
engaged, rooms at the various hotels
in this city, and the indications are
that the hostelries will bo crowded
to their utmost limit! . The local
; committee is determined that there
- shall be no lacjc of good accommoda
: tions, and if the leading hotels prove
inadequate well-known citizens will
' open their homes to the excess.
( T he program for the convention
' is taking form. It has ' been an
nou need that the mass meeting will
be held on Wednesday evening in
' Tomllnson 'Hall. The, (admission
will be by ticket, and , strangers In
' the city will be favored first. The
preliminary session of the conven-.-
x tion will be held Wednesday, begin-
ning at noon, and the chief business
r Thursday, beginning at 10 a . m.
Cafferr forCbalnnan,
, The important thing Wednesday
-.will be the speech of the temporary
halrman fThe executive commit
tee cannot yet announce the name of
' the temporary i presiding officer, v It
. looks now as if the selection will not
, be difinitely made until Monday. It
seems B pretty certain that Senator
Caffery of Louisiana will be perma
nent chairman: Walter Kessler of
this city, thte sergeant-at arms for
the committee, is engaged in ap
- pointing the doorkeepers and assist-
'. ant sergeants, Be will be ready to
announce the list of appointments
later in the week.
It Is proposed that the delegates
Bhall enter by the Market street
; door, and the men holding stage
tickeW and the newspaper men by
the Delaware street door. The ser
geant 'and bis assistants will all
' wear badges. . The sentiment in
t favor Of Senator. Vilas for President
: Is growing steadily at headquarters
here, and it now, looks as if the m
. fluence of Indiana In the convention
would be exerted in favor of his
lamination. '
London, Aug. 28. Thomas Galla
