A Child's Iaugh.
BT SWI5BTJR2TE.J
All the bells of Heaven may ring.
All the birds of Heaven may sing.
All the wells on earth may spring.
All the wind on earth may bring
All sweet sounds together;
Sweeter far than all thing heard,
Hand of harper, tone of bird,
Bound of woods at sundown stirred,
Welling waters, winsome word.
Wind in warm, wan weather.
One thing yet there is. that none
Hearing ere its chime be done.
Knows not well the sweetest one
Heard of man beneath the sun,
Hoped in Heaven hereafter;
Soft and strong and loud and light,
Very sound of very light.
Heard from morning's rosiest height,
When the soul of all delight
Fills a child's clear laughter.
Cotton Stalk Bagging.
Augusta, April 21. Win E Jack
son, a well known lawyer of this city,
lias solved the bagging problem that
has agitated cotton circles for so long.
Mr Jackson has perfected mechanical
appliances for making bagging from
cotton stalks. He is just from New
York with a roll of the bagging. Ex
pert cotton men say that it is in every
respect equal to cotton bagging. He
will utilize bare stalks from the fields
and can afford to pay about two dol
lars a ton, laid down. An annual
Btalk field will bale a three years'
cotton crop. The machinery com
prises heavily weighed corrugated
rollers, with valves for running water,
carding machines and bagging looms.
It is estimated that in making bag
ging from cotton stalks $2,000,COO an
nually will go into the pockets of
farmers for what is now cleared from
the fields at an expense. Augusta
will be headquarters for the compa
ny's mill and offices, which will ex
tend from Virginia to Texas. Mr
Jackson had a roll of bagging, which
is exhibited woven by the jute baggiug
looms of J 0 Todd, at Paterson, N J,
,nd that experts here pronounce
equal to its jute rival The cotton
stalk bagging is i: ss jnflamaMe and
Is ouly a shade darker than jute. Cot
ton circles here are jubilant.

WHAT A BOY DOES.
The Writer Remembered How
it Used to Be.
Be comes out at the front doo,
bright faced and happy. He comes
oat for no particular reason, says the
Washington apital, save that, he
wants to be movlDg about. He is full
of physical action, and he must get
some of it out of him before bed time
or he he won't be fit to sleep. He
doesn't know this with his head, but
his body knows it; for, after all, the
body does a good deal of its own
thinking, independently of what we
call consciousness. He stands on the
step and looks up and down the
street. He doesn't know what he is
looking for. Indeed he is not look
ing for anything. He just looks with
a sort of undefined hope that he will
see something suggestive to him of
what to do. He jumps down the steps
and goes to the gate, hangs on it a
moment, makes a few sounds with
his voice such as nobody but a boy
can make, and nobody else would
make if he could. They don't mean
anything He makes them because
well, because he is a boy. As if he
had suddenly thought of something
to do, he bangs the gate open and
rushes down the middle of the street,
yelling like a young Indian. But he
has not suddenly thought of some
thing to do. He his simply done that
because he couldn't think of any
thing to do, and must do something.
Then he pieks up a stone and fires it
at a dog, and cringes and feels sorry
if it hits the mark. He doesn't want
to hurt the dog. He throws the stone
because he and the dog and the stone
are there, and it is handy to do so.
For a few seconds he stands and looks
up into a tree at nothing. Then he
breaks into a run again and suddenly
sits down on the curbstone as if he
had accomplished something and was
content.
