Cannon Lewis and Nelson Hines, who were arrested on yesterday for stealing goods from Messrs Norris & Carter, had a hearing today before the mayor. They were sent on to jail in default of bond. Josephine Hunter was bound over to court for concealing stolen goods. Sam Jones 3IeetIngs,Cliarlotte, N. C. The most important, as well as in teresting entertainment that our good people have had an opportunity of listening to, for a very long time, will be an address by our distinguish ed Governor at Metropolitan Hall next Sunday afternoon at 5 o'clock. The subject will be:"Our Young Men, Their Duty to Themselves, and the Relations Which Subsist Between Them and our Business Men." The justly celebrated "JEFF Quartette," which rendered such beautiful music at Edenton Street Methodist Church last Monday night will be present, and give all, such music as cannot fail to please, as well as to enliven and thrill the soul of every lover of harmony. The well known eloquence of our distinguished silver tongued orator will be sure, we hope, to draw a large concourse of appreciative citizens. The indictment against Frank Woodruff, alias Black, charging him with complicity in the murder of the late Dr P H Cronin, was dismissed at Chicago yesterday by consent of the State. A Zellner & Co's clothing store, at Elmira, N Y, was closed yesterday on judgments aggregating more than $5,000, and there are other claims. Fire on Sunday damaged the works of the Moline, 111, Buggy Company and the Sechler Carriage Company to the extent of f 20,000; fully insured. The Mennonites' custom of wash ing f ?et was observed yesterday morn ing in the hall over the Old Town Bank. About fifty persons attended. The sermon was delivered by Jacob S Lehman, of Chambersburg, Pa. During the service he reiuoyed his coat, shoes and stockings, placed a towel around his waiste and immersed his feet in a small tub of water that sat on the platform. Upon with drawing them one of the male mem bers of the order wiped and dried them with the towel. The p.-eacher in turn washed the feet of about ten men. Fifteen ladies also observed the same ceremony among them selves. The washirg of feet is in obe dience to the command to love one another. The Mennonites do not fight in wars, sue at law, nor follow modern fashions of dress. Their cloth ing is severely plain. THE OLD NORTH STATE. The State board of education has received soma $12,000 from the sale ot swamp lands during the current fiscal year. Durham Globe: Messrs Ballard & Halliourton, trustees of W T Black well, sold to a syndicate of Virginia capitalists $14,000 worth of real estate last Saturday.
