GRAND FISHING EXCURSION. A party of our Business Gentle men Proposes to Take an Aquatic Trip Over the Kaglng Xeuse Extensive Prepara tions and a Splendid Time Looked For. The merry month of May will be inaugurated in fine style by one of the most extensive private fishing ex cursions eyer gotten np in this city, fixed up in a style heretofore un surpassed in this section, with all the arrangements necessary to make up a short season of the utmost enjoy- ment. For some time this grand ex cursion has been in serious contem plation, and finally, desiring a rest from the cares of daily ioutine life, the scheme was fully mapped out in all its various details, and now, the consummation is near at hand. The usually placid billows of the Neuse was selected for the grand venture of the highland ad venturers, and next Monday was selected for the start. On that day Messrs M A Parker, C F Harvey, E L Fleming, S H Crocker, D F Fort, N A Spence and N N Bunch, will leave the city on the morning freight train over the North Carolina Railroad. Preceding the aquatic adventurers will be a boat de nominated the ''Big 4" after a cele brated brand of tobacco which the firm of Messrs Parker & Harvey have succeeded so well in placing before the world in a most desirable light The boat will be taken tomorrow on a wagon below Smith's Falls opposite Clayton on Neuse River. The party will embark on the bank below the railroad bridge neir Selma. The destination of the party will be Vil lage Creek, twenty miles below Kin ston, where the fun in earnest wil! commence. A full description of the prepara tions for this grand event will be al most impossible so varied are they in all respects. The "Big 4," in which our advent urers will embark, is the handiwork and design of Mr N N Bunch, and is a perfect gem. It is four feet wide and twenty leet long. The propelling power consists of paddle wheels four aad a half feet in diameter, turned by the process of cranks. The inter nal arrangements of the "Big 4," are most admirable in all respects. A nice oil cloth covering will protect the oc cupants from the sun and rain. Mat ti esses will beprovided and everything looking to the comfort of the party has been secured. A firstrate supply of cooking utensils has been provided and enough bait to catch every fish between Raleigh and the ocean. The boat will be supplied with chairs and lounges, and the flag of our "grand and glorious Union ' will float proudly from the front. A meeting recently held has selected as gallant, as competent and as jolly a crew as ever walked the plank of a man of war of this or any other coun try. Mark the selection: M A Parker, captain and general commander in chief; E L Fleming, first mate; O F Harvey, pilot. .With such a crew, the winds may howl, the breakers may roar, butthe "jolly tars" will see to it that "all is well." The culinary arrangements of the oc casion have been placed in the hands of Wm Smith, (colored), and we really feel sorry for him as the job he has undertaken will put his powers as a cook to the severest test. To clean, stew, or fry the thousands of the finny tribe that this party will doubt less succeed in bringing from the wa tery element to the face of old moth er earth, will put the aforesaid Wil liam in a condition to apply for ref uge in an infirmary for indigent col ored individuals, if he ever succeeds in reaching Raleigh again. Just to think of it. Kegs of salt mind you kegs, not quarts, have been procured for the shad, to say nothing of the thousands of jack, chub, perch and myriads of other denizens of the deep (hat will be seized. The job for Wil- am is heavy treuieudous He has our utmost sympathies. The matter of complete system has not been overlooked, by our highland mariners, ' and they have arranged a regular schedule, which, with the aid ot fair winds.they hope to successfully carry out. The "Big 4 will ttop at Smithfield one hour, so that the den- zens of the "State -of Johnston,' can see for themselves something of the energy that now prevails in the capital of the 'Old North State." roceeding from thence, a stop of an hour will be spent at Goldsbcro, where it is expected that the party will be cordially received by the Mayor and Aldermen, as a f'tting tribute to gal lant merit and worth. Speeding oti again the "Big 4" will halt at Seven Springs, where the party will spend the night drinking from the Spark ling waters that spout up so inviting ly to human taste, (water being the only liquid allowed under the tempo rary by-laws and regulations of the crew.) White Hall will next be reach ed where an hours rest will be taken, thence to Kinston where the night will be spent. Of the personnel of these gallant adventurers, it may be hardly ueces' sary to speak, as they are all well known to most of our people. M A Parker and C F Harvey, as hereto fore stated, constitute the firm of Parker & Harvey, and the extent of their business can be well imagined by the fame their brands have made. We recently saw six bills of laden for some of their shipments. E L Hem ing is the junior partner of the firm of IN, Proctor & Co, leaf tobacco dealers, well known throughout the State. N A Spence, Jr, is connected with the firm of Spence Bros as is also S H Crocker. D F Fort is well known to our coram unity. The people of Raleigh must not expect that an exped'tion so full of interest and so important in all its details, will go un notrced in the press The editor of the Visitor has been the recipient of a kind invitation to attend, and will, providence permitting be along with his note book, so that the doings ana sayrngs oi eacn ana every one connected with the "marine" display shall be placed prominently before our ever discriminating public. The whole matter is now presented, al though in an imperfect style, and as tne judge says to the rury the people may "take the case," and reflect over it. A rich treat h in store for those who participate, and we hope for all who may read about the adventurers ot the "Raleigh Siubads " One word more; we advise all who have i n idea of fishing in Neuse River at any point aoove oelma, to suspend operations at least for awhile There will not be a scale left of any of the finny tribe below Smithfield, for many months after Monday next. Mark the pre aiction. New Advertisements. The question has been repeatedly asked if each head of the amphibious wonder at Whiting Bros', act, eat think and sleep independently of each other. Close observation shows such to be a fact. They seem to have a good deal of humor about them from the trioks they play upon each other and they are also readily learning to eat. It is a wonder well worth seeing and hundreds of people have take look at it. ' ' . Personal Mention. Dr P Babcock, has gone to St aim ton, Va, where he will spend the sum mer. Capt W S Harris, was taken sud denly ill day before yesterday. He has Buffered very much, but we are glad to state he is Letter today.
