"A Life." LCCT CHI VI 1133 DAT. Oat la the sunshine, bright and gay, A boy runs forth with sonny hair; All day long a Joyous song Is wafted forth on the sweet spring air Then night comes on with Its peace ful shades. The song is ended, the silence deep; The prayer has been said at his mo ther's knee, And now in his snowy bed he'll sleep. II. Over his books till the "we tma" hours A boy is pondering with anxious care; . Knowledge is holding him in her arms, As she strikes his forehead high and bare. Deep in his heart is an image sweet, Neither time nor knowledge can it efface; It lures him on to higher spheres, With its eyes so tender, its charm ing grace. in. The odor of flowers, the gaslight soft, Have mingled together a scene di viDe, Where beauty and wisdom together sit; Where grace and honor are both entwined. Under the shade with its softening glow Two figures are sitting side by side; One is our boy to manhood grown. The other his image, now his bride; Happy they are all life seems bright As they sit tog ther and talk to night. IV. O'er a grave, when the sun went down, A man is seen to kneel alone; Nothing is left of the "one bright dream" But a mound of earth and a smooth gwve stone. This morn in her wedding robes of . silk His image so cherished was laid away. He is now kneeling where all is night, But she is singing where all is day. v. The world is down at his feet today, But little he cares for its homage and praise, His heart is buried deep under the sod, In his mind are the memories of other days. But the image is with him and still will be, Though now a spirit, unheard, un seen. She is leading his soul though he knows it not To tender pastures where all is green. When at last the loom of his life is bare. And all the threads have been cut and spun, . The spirit will lead him gently forth To dwell with the happy beyond the sun. Richmond Dipatch. THE NEWS. A man named Fields has just died near Danville, Ky., who, though 67 years old, never slept a single night out of the house in which he was born, and 'never ate but one meal away from Home, ae was only twice outside of his native county, and then only for an hour each time. Rev. S. C. He then claimed that the original thir teen colonies of the United States represented the thirteen tribes of Is rael, and that this wonderful, pro gressive country was nothing less than the Israel whose prophesied res toration was being fulfilled. George Zimmer, a farmer of Mays ville, Ind., saturated the hides of his cows with kerosene oil to kill vermin, and afterwards took a red hot iron and started to brand one of the cows, when in an instant the annimal was enveloped in flames.
