Death Of llev. J. E. Maun, D. D.
The announcement by telegram
from Hon D W Baio, that this dis
tinguished diriue had died from
typhoid fever in 8t Louis on Friday
last, has cast deep gloom over our
entire State. Dr Mann was one of
the delegates from Norl h Carolina
to the General Conference at St Louis.
At the time of his death he was about
sixty years old, and had been in the
North Carolina Conference since 1853.
During his ministry he was pastor at
Ijayettevnie, uoldsboro, Mreensboro
and Wilmington, and presiding elder
on the Washington, Warrenton and
New Berne districts.

Unveiling: the Statue.
Richmond, Va, May 23. Besides
the uniformed troops from many
Southern States who have signified
intention of beiDg present at the un
veiling of the Equestrian statue of
General Lee many veteran organi
zations will be in line from Marylai d.
West Virginia, Virginia, North Caro-
lina,South Carolina, Georgia.Florida,
Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana and
Texas.
While orders in regard to the pa
rade and programme of exercises
have not yet been issued it is under
stood that the uniformed troops and
veterans will be given position in the
line in the order in which their
States seceded. This will put Pouth
Carolina first. The uniformed troops
will be under the command of Brig.
Gen Charles J Anderson, of Virginia.
It has been determined to have vocal
and instrumental music at the un
veiling of the statue. The hymn
"How firm a foundation" will be sung
by the vast assemblage with a full
brass band accompaniment..
