NOTICE.
The proprietors of the Visitor are
always anxious and willing to ac
commodate their patrons as far as it
can be done without detriment to the
interests of the paper, or injustice to
our friends. Our space is limited,
and in order to make the columns at
tractive, the matter should be as va
ried as possible. The numerous nom
inations for official preference, thus
early in the campaigD, will prove too
heavy on our columns for gratuitous
insertion, and, hence, we feel under
the necessity of adopting a scale of
rates for the insertion of such cards,
or communications. Hereafter
charge of twenty five cents an inch
(eight lines) or less, will be made for
such insertions.

our people of the action of the coun
ty commissioners yesterday in reduc
ing the poll and property tax. The
failure of the crops last year was a

with the fair prospects now before
them and a reduced tax, they can
pall through all right.

Trin ity College
Although, through the force of cir
cumstances, Raleigh did not succeed
in procuring the establishment of
this institution in our midst, yet,
p very thing relating to its, prospects
are of interest to the great body of
our people.
Mr S L Leary, of Charlotte, who se
cured the award for the design of the
building, has submitted his plans, ac
cording to which the college building
will cost $125,000. It will be a very
imposing structure and conveniently
arranged in every particular. It will
be, undoubtedly the handsomest col
lege building in North Carolina.
In addition to the main building
there will be an annex for the Y M C
A, a building for professors, a gymna
sium, chemical, laboratory, physical
laboratory, Bible house, swimming
baths, athletic track, etc. The main
building will be of stone and pressed
brick, and will be three stories with
basement. Work will be commenced
in two weeks.
An Impressive Scene.
The Tabernacle Church was filled
morning and evening on Sunday. In
the morning a scene was witnessed
that will not soon be forgotten by
those who were present. Before giv
ing out the second hymn, Mr Hall
said: "A few days ago there was un
veiled in the city of Richmond a mon
ument to perpetuate the name of one
who is especially dear to every south
ern heart, one who by bis military
skill and grandly Christian character
has gained the admiration of the civ
ilized world. Tou know of whom I
speak General Robert E Lee. He
had a favorite hymn. It will be sung
in many a church today; let us alU
sing it here:
"How firm a Foundation ye Saints
of the Lord."
And as the good old hymn was sung
by that immense audience tears were
seen coursing down many a face, lips
Quivered and many an old soldier
present thought of the days gone by.
It was indeed an impressive occasion,
Seven school children were bitten

The Funding Act.
It is of the utmost importance to
those owning bonds of the State of
North Carolina, denominated the
old issue, or construction bonds to
keep in mind the fact that the f und-
ng act will expire on the 1st of July
next. It should be remembered that
the State has heretofore extended
the time in which the old bonds can
be exchanged for the new 4 per cent
consols, and, it may be, that the com
ing legislature will refuse any further
extension. There is no State in the
South that made more liberal offers
to compromise all just debts than
North Carolina, and it is fair to pres
ume that no further concessions can,
or will be male on the-bond, yet
outstanding. Bondholders need not
cherish the "flattering unction" that
anything can be gained by delay.
North Carolina Ins done all in the
premises that could be expected and
all thtt the people will ratify.
We hope tha' before the 1st of
July, every outstanding bond will be
returned to the treasury to that no
difficulty may be encountered by
bondholders in the future, and the
State may be relieved of any further
trouble in the.matter.

I Despise the Word Economy.
This expression was made by a
beautiful young woman on one occa
sion iu company. Her admirer heard
it. Then he made this expression:
I love that girl but I would not
marry her if every hair on her head
was strung with a diamond." A good
display of common sense and econ
omy is a good advertisement for a
young lady. Now, then, if you go to
Swindell's and get a parasol and save
a dollar, and get a I'rees and save a
dollar, get a pair of shoes and save a
dollar, there is three dollars saved (a
day's wages for your future husband).
Young ladies, do you think you are
not watched? Do you think your
business sense is not noticed? Do you
think the young man who wants to
make you his wife cares not whether
you have good business sense? Dis
play your good judgment and hard
horse sense. Buy your dry goods
from Swindell's because it will pay
you.
