If you know of any of his folks pleaee inform them. I will be glad to hear from you. Respectfully yours, M Stbiner, . Albuquerque, Bernalillo Co, New Mexico. Closing Exercises of Wakefield j High School. We had the great pleasure on Fri day last of attending the closing ex ercises of this well known and most excellent Institution of learniug for both sexes, situated twenty miles northeast of Raleigh, in one of the most delightful portions of Wake county. We left the city about 5:30 in the morning withMr J N Hubbard the efficient steward of the Agricul tural and MechanicalCollege and our daughters Misses Alice and Maggie. Mr L O Lougee our admirable Coun ty Treasurer, and his daughter, Miss Mamie, were also of the party. Af ter a most delightful ride, through a country teeming with the fairest prospects for an abundant yield we reached our destination at 9:30 o'clock, where we found a large num ber of persons, which increased dur ing the day to over fifteen huudred, After a rest of about half an hour, the exercises commence 1 in accor dance with the programme arranged The house was literally packed with an immense audience, representing not only the immediate surrounding country but from sections far off. It would be impossible foi us to go into personal details as to the merits of each of those who participated in the exercises. In such instances we do not desire to draw even the slightest distinction where all i erformed the parts allotted to them, in a manner that elicited the highest admiration. It can truly be said that some of the pieces re dered were perfectly splen did and this can be said with perlect sincerity as to the music, declama tions, recitations, dialogues, or other features that made .up the pro gramme. The officials of this splendid Insti tution of learning deserve more than a passing notice. Rev O L Strin, field and Prof W J Ferreli are the Principals. The immediate charge of the school, is, however, vested in Prof W J Ferreli, and he is most ably assisted b . Mrs O L Stringfield, Miss Irene Cartwright and Miss Annie Shepherd, both of the last named from Suffolk, Va. Prof Ferreli stands deservedly high, and is justly consid ered as one of the most efficient teach ers in the State. This is best proven by the great success that has crowned his efforts. There were in attendance this session one hundred and twenty five students, an 1 these were not con fined to North Carolina, but repre sented several other States. It was a source of extreme gratification foi us to note, specially the high standard of moral training that was visible on all sides. In this respect the school can be said to stand pre-eminent, and it is a feature that must .most highly commend the Institution to the most favorable consideration of parent and guardians Of the assistants of Prof Ferreli we are more than pleased to make spe cial mention. Mrs O L Stringfield is a lady in every way most competent for the discharge of the arduous and responsible duties, which the position imposes. Miss Irene Cartwright and Miss Annie Shepherd, are indeed worthy of all praise, both being ex ceedingly proficient, especially in the art of music in which they excel. In the instrumental and vocal depart' ments of music they have but few equals, and their superiors would in deed be hard to find. And just here we hone we do not draw invidious destination in saying that the per sonal charms of these young ladies are only equalled by the skill they po.sefs in the musical line. They both cained the in st deserve J eclat. In all that pertains to a system of general education, there has been most marked progress in the section in which this Bchool is located. It is not an exaggeration to say, that ten years ago, twenty five scholars could not have been obtained in a log house school. The result now is most as tonishing, and the needs of popular education are fast gaining ground under the auspices of the growing institution of which we write. We cannot conclude this article without an acknowledgment for the kind hospitality we received from all , with whom we came in contact, and we are Specially indebted to Rev O L Stringfield and Dr Bell for many courtesies. We faw present numerous gentlemen frcm Raleigh, among whom were some of our prominent citizens. We returned to the city on Satur day, deeply impressed with all we had seen and heard, and with the cheering reflection that in all that pertains to the material progress of 'Old Wake" we were making most rapid strides in the right direction. We but repeat the general verdict on all sides in sayiDg we never saw farm ing interests in a better condition. There is indeed a most cheerful out- lock, and the harvest promises the most abundant yields we have had for many years. Providence smiles upon us and we should be thankful. Playing the Fool. Oq tomorrow night, at Metropoli tan Hall, Rev Thomas Dixon, Jr, will deliver his celebrated lecture entitled, "Playing' the Fool." Mr Dixon is so well known, and has gained such a reputation throughout the country he needs no special commendation at our hands. It is sufficient to say that all who hear him will be more than repail. He is a gentleman whose literary attainments have become na tional in their character, and his ora tory is equal to any man in the coun try. The proceeds of the lecture are to be devoted towards a narsonaee for the Baptist Tabernacle church. The object is therefore a good one. Liet the hall be crowded to its utmost. capacity.
